Summary
Fire Erowid is Executive Director of the non-profit educational organization Erowid Center and Editor in Chief of Erowid Extracts. In 1995, along with her partner Earth, she co-founded Erowid.org, an independent public web-based library that collects, reviews, and publishes data about psychoactive plants, drugs, technologies, and practices. She is Head Archivist of the site, which hosts more than 58,000 documents and images and receives over 90,000 unique visitors each day. Fire is the site's primary information architect, designer, and editor, as well as being responsible for fundraising and operations.
Fire has studied psychoactive plants and drugs since the early 1990s. She has written hundreds of pages of information about these materials, authored numerous articles, and has had her work cited by newspapers, education programs, college classes, and seminars around the world. Fire has twice been a recipient of the Women's Entheogen Fund (in 2004 and 2006) for her work in the field, and in 2011 she and Earth received the Drug Policy Alliance's Dr. Andrew Weil Award for Achievement in the Field of Drug Education. Fire and Earth have spoken internationally at academic and professional conferences sponsored by groups as diverse as the National Institute on Drug Abuse, the North American Association of Clinical Toxicologists, the Mycological Society of San Francisco, Mind States, Entheogenesis Australis, the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies, and the American College of Medical Toxicology to name a few. In 2012 they became members of the Advisory Council of Students for Sensible Drug Policy.
