I Had This Tranquilizer Feeling
MDMA & Fluoxetine
Citation:   Raver Cheshire. "I Had This Tranquilizer Feeling: An Experience with MDMA & Fluoxetine (exp102998)". Erowid.org. Sep 25, 2017. erowid.org/exp/102998

DOSE:
20 mg oral Pharms - Fluoxetine (daily)
  120 mg oral MDMA
BODY WEIGHT: 120 lb
Please Use Caution MDMA and SSRI

I would like to put out a word of caution for anyone that is, or has been on an SSRI similar in nature to Prozac, and wishes to try MDMA. This was not a pleasant experience.

I decided to try MDMA for the first time, after seeing my boyfriend at the time use it on multiple occasional and have no ill effects. We did research into any interactions between MDMA and SSRI's, and found many reports detailing that it was weak, or did not work. I decided to try it anyway, in a quiet, safe environment with my boyfriend as the sitter.

I did not take the Prozac that day, and took 120 milligrams orally of MDMA, with a high purity rating. There were no other chemicals in my body at this time, and I took it on an empty stomach.

After about 40 minutes, I began to feel some effects of disorientation and anxiety, which I was assured was normal for a first time user. I started getting chills, and then things began to go wrong. I was shaking from the cold, and began to feel very heavy and tired. I was pulled up from the floor, and was helped to walk around a little bit to get some blood flowing. Immediately, I sank back to the floor, and wanted to go to sleep. I had this tranquilizer feeling, as though I was being forced to go to sleep.

Luckily, my sitter was very proficient and laid me down. He continued to talk to me, lightly smacking my cheeks and keeping me awake. He continuously monitored my pulse which was weaker than normal, and I was very cold. I was disoriented, weak, and chilled fighting to stay conscious for a full two hours before I warmed up, and could speak again.

As a side note, I am no longer on the Prozac (had been on 20mg/day for 6 years) and have had many successful MDMA experiences. I did not get an MDMA 'High' for almost 6 months after I had stopped taking the SSRI. At the 3 month mark, I would get many associated reactions such as heat, euphoria and touch sensitivity, but still had a tired dragging feeling. I now have perfectly normal experiences, and have not had any other tired feelings (this is all while using the same batch of MDMA, in the same dosage).

While I cannot prove that this was a true interaction between MDMA and SSRI's, I would like people to think twice about using if they have been on a prolonged SSRI regimen. I did not take that much, however if I had the effects could have been worse. I was also very smart to have a sitter that was able to keep me conscious, as I feel that my life could have been in considerable danger that night.

Please be safe :)
