What is the detection period for Detect Now aerosol Cannabis tests?
Q: My college is soon to participate in a statewide program to test students for cannabis use, using Detect Now aerosol tests. What is the detection period for these test and could I show up positive if they use it on my skin, even after I've washed my hands?

A: We've looked up the Detect Now aerosol tests, but unfortunately they don't provide a lot of information about how exactly the tests work or what the detection period is. We've ordered one of the aerosol marijuana detection kits and will run some trials with it when it arrives. Hopefully the package insert will provide more details about detection period. Anything we find out will be posted to our drug testing vault as soon as possible.

If you haven't seen it, there is a website for Detect Now:

http://www.testsymptomsathome.com/msi01.asp

The marketing material for the kits suggests that skin tests are possible, although we also found comments that skin testing is less reliable than testing of other surfaces. Supposedly the test can detect down to microgram levels, so hand washing might well not remove all testable residue...but again, until we're able to get ahold of a test, we don't know the answer to this.

One interesting note...the website very specifically states that both Nutmeg and Henna provide false positives for the Marijuana test. Individuals with henna tatoos or with a penchant for nutmeg might be difficult to get accurate readings from...though false positives are no fun to explain.
