How much amphetamine is in a tablet marked "alza 36"?
Q: I have recently acquired a pill with "alza 36" on it at college (for "study time"). It was sold to me as Adderall, and i have no question that it actually is; however, i would like to find out how much of amphetamines is in it.

A: According to the Drug Identification Bible, a tablet bearing the imprint "alza 36" does not contain amphetamine, but instead contains 36 mg (sustained release) Methylphenidate, more commonly known by the brand name "Ritalin". This tablet is sold under the brand name "Concerta", produced by a different manufacturer, and is most importantly a time release product. It is designed to spread the dose out over 8 hours when taken orally and should not be used within 8-10 hours of trying to sleep.

Methylphenidate is a stimulant like amphetamine, but is not structurally related to amphetamine. Like amphetamine, it is used in the treatment of attention deficit disorder and is most commonly prescribed to children. There is more information in our Methylphenidate Vault
