Summary
Albert Einstein was born in Germany and attended school there in his early years. He was a mediocre student until his family moved to Italy and he began attending school in Switzerland. He attended the Swiss Federal Polytechnic School in Zürich where he got his degree as a teacher of physics and mathematics in 1901. The same year he requested Swiss citizenship, which was granted, and acquired a job at the Swiss Patent Office. He received his doctorate in 1905, by which time he had become world famous for his many publications and for his special theory of relativity.

In 1914, after moving from one distinguished position to another, he was appointed Director of the Kaiser Wilhelm Physical Institute and Professor in the University of Berlin and became a German citizen once again. In 1921 Einstein won the Nobel Prize in Physics. He remained in Berlin until 1933 (after Hitler came to power) when he renounced his German citizenship for political reasons. At that time he emigrated to the United States where he became Professor of Theoretical Physics in the newly created Institute for Advanced Studies at Princeton. In 1940 he became a U.S. citizen and in 1945 he retired.

After WWII, Einstein was offered the position of President of the State of Israel, which he declined. He became a leading figure in the World Government Movement as well as continuing to work towards the unification of the basic concepts of physics.
