'Drugs.' The grim bogey which eats at the heart of America, lurks in the shadows of our schools and churches, threatens our very way of life. A lot of people claim to know an awful lot about mind-altering chemicals, but the most self-righteous have never challenged their cerebrum with anything but alcohol and television.
Of course, the word 'drugs' means nothing now. What you are about to read about has nothing to do with crack-whores peddling themselves for a fix, PCP monsters in homicidal rages, evil crime syndicates corrupting your children. The experiences shared here are of an intensely personal nature. They changed my life. [More on this soon.] Woke me up to the precious moment which this life contains, the opportunity to create magic in the face of all this horror...
I do not advocate recklessness and irresponsibility. If these experiences make you curious, PLEASE do your homework. Start HERE. Be careful. Be smart. But most of all, understand that you may learn things about yourself that are unsettling, disquieting, even terrifying. Be prepared to cry, to get religion, as they say.
Keep in mind, too, that the value of these experiences lies far beyond the substances involved. Those are incidental in the end. They simply sat me down hard and made me listen to what was already inside of me, something that had been ignored too long. Conscience, compassion, fear. Don't do drugs; learn that your mind and body are the sacred tools by which your life is to be lived.
Now, since all drugs with potential to change lives have been declared illegal, I can only share dreams and fictions here. I myself, being an upright citizen of this great republic, would never publicly condone illegal activities, no matter how cynical, short-sighted, and murderous their prohibition became.
