Drowsy With a Dash of Pleasure
Oxycodone & Promethazine

DOSE:
T+ 0:00
25 mg oral Pharms - Promethazine
  T+ 0:30 10 mg oral Oxycodone
BODY WEIGHT: 215 lb
Overview: As an exclusively amateur, recreational, and low-tolerance opiophile, in pursuit of becoming a true opioid connoisseur with a well-refined pallet, so to speak, I decided to experiment with a number of popular potentiators in combination with different opioids to see how they would affect my subjective experience in regard to euphoria and related pleasurable effects. Today this brought me to promethazine. Promethazine is commonly prescribed in conjunction with opioids, so I knew that a moderated dosage would be relatively safe. Since there are many accounts of user experiences involving promethazine and codeine, I decided to administer the more potent but common oxycodone as an opioid alternative.

Setting: Knowing that the sedating effects of the oxycodone would be only further enhanced by the CNS depression of promethazine, I decided to administer both in the mid-morning hours after a good night's sleep. Some armchair theories suggest that the one or more enzymes which metabolize the promethazine also may metabolize codeine, keeping the codeine in one's system longer. In extending this speculation to the oxycodone, I decided to administer the promethazine a full 30 minutes prior to the oxycodone. After eventually ingesting both, I laid down in a dark, cool room to gauge the experience.

Revelatory experience: shortly before the oxycodone, the effects of the promethazine appeared, manifested as a general feeling of drowsiness, as anticipated. The oxycodone then gradually made its presence known; a sensation I am well accustomed to, but it felt qualitatively different this time. On the positive side, the overall feeling of the oxycodone did seem subjectively more intense than normal for the dosage; a true feeling of potentiation. However, while this may have indeed extended its sedative and analgesic effects, the euphoria and other pleasurable sensations felt strangely muted. I was left with a mild sense of frustration as I felt a powerful swell of the drug in my system and awaited for it to convert to pleasurable waves or 'glow' - a feeling that was never quite achieved.

Conclusion: In my anecdotal opinion, promethazine works well to increase the 'nodding off' effects of oxycodone better than it does the related euphoria. Indeed, I found myself drifting in and out of a light sleep, but experiencing noticeably less pleasurable feelings than if I had administered the same amount of oxycodone by itself. This however, was just a single experiment and obviously limited to my own individual biochemistry.
