DOSE:
40 g oral Kratom
    repeated buccal Nicotine (daily)
    oral Unknown (daily)
BODY WEIGHT: 180 lb
I recently received an order of powdered kratom derived from 2 different kratom strains. I purchased 100 grams of what’s usually described as a strain with more stimulant properties (Maeng Da Thai kratom) along with 50 grams of a more sedating variety (Bali Kratom). I’m personally partial to the more stimulant like strains often finding the more sedating varieties both less euphoric and less functional with more undesirable side effects (itching) but I figured I’d purchase both a night time and day time kratom just the way MMJ patients use indica at night and sativa in the morning. I rationalized using kratom in this diurnal pattern in order to help mitigate some of the side effects of the mood stabilizers I take for bipolar as well as to help with the depression I struggle with.

As of today I decided that I wanted to quit all mind altering substances (for the millionth time). My general pattern is to find a new substance that I perceive as some sort of panacea, become obsessed with this substance, try to control usage, decide to quit, decide I must quickly consume the rest of my supply of drug in order to quit with the end part probably justification to go on a prodigious binge with said substance.

Today I was compelled to play out this last part of the cycle with some of my supply of kratom (not smart). I mixed what I might roughly estimate as 40 grams of Maeng Da kratom with a pint of orange juice. I then drank this down on a stomach moderately filled with food. I find kratom is less effective with food in my stomach which helped fuel my greedy dose. I also have observed that I have an extremely high tolerance to the perceivable side effects of more typical opioids e.g. hydrocodone and oxycodone. This high tolerance contributed to my disregard for ‘normal’ dosage guidelines of kratom powder which might involve say 2-20 grams.

The effects of the kratom were enjoyable for the first 2 hours of the experience with the usual decrease in fatigue, increased concentration and stamina with low grade dizziness, mild euphoria and increased sociability. Happy as I was I then put nicotine gum into my mouth. I chew multiple pieces of nicotine gum while at work every day because I cannot smoke nearby. Anyways, within a couple of minutes of chewing nicotine gum I started to feel ill. I became extremely dizzy with vertigo, faintness/light headedness, and intense nausea with projectile vomiting and dry heaves into the toilet at my work. This remained very intense for a half hour. After this half hour or so, the nausea, dizziness, and vertigo decreased in intensity to a considerable extent with only mild light headedness persisting. Sick as I am, I drank more kratom O.J. a little later that day along with more nicotine.

Lessons learned:

1. I don't learn
2. Do not take more than about 20 grams of kratom regardless of food in stomach.
2.Beware of nicotine while dosing high on kratom.
3.I have little control of my kratom intake
