Ah Gabapentin, quite possibly my favorite social drug of all time.
Experience: Weed, alcohol, dip, shrooms, MDMA, various painkillers, Xanax, Etizolam
No other psychoactive drugs taken at time of experience.
I take gabapentin as a social drug probably about every weekend to every other weekend. I consider myself quite experienced with it. I was originally prescribed Gabapentin to alleviate symptoms of medication induced peripheral neuropathy and stayed on it or Pregablin, its more expensive cousin, for a grand total of almost a year. It was very effective for nerve pain, but every day use gave me severe bloating so I had to discontinue because it was uncomfortable and I looked 7 months pregnant. I do not get this effect with infrequent use.
I like to take Gabapentin before any kind of social event where I feel like I would enjoy an 'extra boost. Typically, this is how a night on Gabapentin would play out:
+0.:00- I take the pills 1200 mg for me is a good dosage where I get great effects, but I'm not incapacitated beyond a barely noticeable slurring of speech, which won't matter if I also happen to be drinking.
+2:30- These babies take forever to kick in. Once they do, I get this feeling that all is right in the world and nothing can bother me. All anxiety melts away and I become very relaxed. My body feels electrified and I just get the feeling to do something, anything. All conversations become interesting.
+3:00-6:00: After it comes on, it hits the peak very quickly and it lasts for about three hours.
After it comes on, it hits the peak very quickly and it lasts for about three hours.
I know I'm there when I catch a reflection of myself and think, ' damn, Rocky... you are one good looking motherfucker.' You see, gabapentin gives me an ego boost like nothing I have ever felt, and I already have pretty high self esteem. All of a sudden, I am the best looking, I can accomplish anything, I... AM... NUMBER... 1. It is what I have always imagined coke feels like, but without the rush I guess you could say. But yet, even with all this egomania, I don't feel above anyone else. I feel connected. I love and feel loved. I feel benevolent. At this point conversation flows like a cool summer stream in the Colorado Rockies.
+6:00-~9:00: this is the comedown, and it basically consists of getting tired, but still feeling like I could continue partying if I wanted to. I am very calm. The quality of sleep is excellent. As a bonus, I feel like gabapentin tends to eliminate next day alcohol hangovers for me. Although maybe I've just been lucky.
The good (or bad, depending in how you look at it) thing about this drug is that after about three days of taking it, it loses its anxiolytic properties, as tolerance to those effects develops rapidly. There is no craving for more, just a loss of interest in chasing diminishing returns. I find that if I wait about a week before taking it again, I'm good to go.
I consider Gabapentin to be a very valuable weapon in my arsenal.
