While I've tried quite a few things (and combinations thereof) in my life, I happened never to have tried 'Robotripping.' I wanted to share an uncomfortable experience I had recently when I decided to give it a try.

I know it can be bad to combine with Yohimbine (which I often take a tiny dose of in the mornings) so I purposely avoided that for around 40 hours before the experience. I also skipped my Wellbutrin that morning... Apparently, that wasn't long enough for one or both of these contraindicated drugs to leave my system (or I'm unusually sensitive to DXM). I did also have a small drink (less than a shot of whiskey) an hour or so before dosing, which was also risky.

We started around 8 pm. I took the DXM in small units (I believe 20 mg pills), trying first just 60 mg and then when I didn't feel much of anything after about 1.5 hours, I felt safe taking another 60 mg and doing some whip-its on my sofa while listening to music. This should have been a low dose, despite my small size and relatively enhanced sensitivity to many drugs/alcohol.

Time gets a little fuzzy at this point, but about 45 minutes after that, I started feeling sort of mellow and sleepy-dreamy, and just closed my eyes and listened to music for maybe 30 minutes.

I stood up to go out for a smoke/short walk and felt immediately ill. I was nauseated, hot/flushed, dizzy, and shaky. My body insisted on getting rid of all of its contents as quickly as possible (that is, both ends). During this, I felt pretty calm after the initial, 'Oh, shit, I made a mistake this time!' terror and worst of the vomiting subsided. I spent the rest of the night feeling mildly altered (dreamy, light visuals).

I had some nausea and distorted visuals (straight lines turning wiggly) and just feeling 'off' that continued until the next afternoon. I can't say for certain what caused it, though the DXM is the only wild card – I combine the others on a somewhat regular basis – so I feel pretty unlikely to try it again unless I've avoided all other substances for an extended period first. The only other time a drug has made me feel sick that way was when a doctor was tinkering with my meds and added Effexor to my Wellbutrin, which was actually a very scary and subjectively similar experience.

I'm really glad I was so cautious in my dosing, because it could have been a lot worse. The main lesson for me (not the first time I've had to learn it) is just to exercise common sense and available information before trying combinations, and never underestimate a drug (to paraphrase Hunter S. Thompson). No matter how many times you've taken much farther 'out there' drugs, they can take you for a ride.
