On this particular night I decided to go this fraternity party. At the time I was interested in joining one. Before I walked to the fraternity house I was hanging out in my friends apartment. There I took 3 shots and drank a beer. I spent my time there just talking and joking with friends having a good time. I eventually leave and walk to the party.
Keep in mind I don’t know a single person at this party. Once I get there I begin talking to people from the fraternity. They show me around and even offer me a bid to join. Then I started talking to girls. Offering them up some “classy” Franzia wine. Then I sit on this couch and that’s the very last thing I remember.
I sit on this couch and that’s the very last thing I remember.
The next day I wake up in the hospital intensive care unit with a catheter in my urethra and 2 IVs in my arms. I’m also cut all over my face and have bruises all of my arms legs but luckily no broken bones. Apparently I was not breathing when I came in and had a blood alcohol content of .6. .4 is considered fatal for most people and I don’t even drink very often. So it’s a miracle I’m still alive. I was kept in the hospital overnight so they could observe me. Alcohol withdrawal proceeded to take effect. I began shaking and sweating profusely. Before this I didn’t even realize serious alcohol withdrawal could take affect after just one night of binge drinking. The next day I’m let out of the hospital.
When I go back to the fraternity to get my phone that I lost there they tell me that I chugged 3 quarters of a handle (1.75L) of tequila then fell down the stairs to the bathroom where I collapsed. I am by no means proud of that. The scariest part is that I don’t even remember drinking that much. If those people didn’t bring me to the hospital I would be dead right now. A person’s judgment degrades further and further as he or she drinks more and more. Which can often cause the person who would otherwise think very rationally to completely lose control and drink a ridiculous amount that ends up being more than they intended.
This may sound very obvious now, but many people such as myself can easily forget about it when they are out having a good time under the affects of alcohol.
