I was near the end of a bad love affair with alcohol, and almost feeling like I was coming to the end of my life, because I just love alcohol so much, but she wasn't letting me use her anymore. As a last resort, I went to a doctor, even though I have tended to leery of pharms, and didn't even really know what he was going to say to me, I was just going to see if I could get a liver function test, and maybe get some reassurance that I hadn't completely ruined my health yet.

Anyway, he prescribed me this Mirtazapine, to use as a sleep aid, to be taken right before bedtime. The reviews seemed to be distinctly mixed, being slightly slanted towards the negative. I was kind of expecting to see spiders, a-la-diphenhydramine, but I was pleasantly surprised. I decided to take it near the end of the afternoon, because I was tired, only having got about 1 1/2 hours of sleep the night before. I tried to stay awake for about 2 hours before I finally just couldn't stay awake any longer. I had been feeling like crap for a good two weeks, hardly able to relax or get any rest due to alcohol cravings and lingering withdrawal symptoms.

To give you an example of how surprised I was by the efficacy of this substance, imagine for instance that you had a well-advance case of leprosy. You are just at your wits end with it, and then someone, like a priest, says to you, 'Here, try this Holy Water!' and he sprinkles some of it on your decaying limbs. So now, your like, gtfo, yeah right, this is gonna make me feel better. But then it actually works. And on top of it, you end up having a dream that contains a crazy kind of revelation about the nature of God. And its not the be all and end all of revelations, but its a pretty darn cool revelation, as far as revelations go.
