DOSE:
4 bowls smoked Leonotis leonurus (flowers)
BODY WEIGHT: 210 lb
Recently I have been experimenting with various legal alternatives to marijuana, due to a shortage in my area. I've always been a fan of marijuana, but I have never been a chronic smoker. The main thing that kept me from smoking marijuana more often was the high risk that came with owning it. So for me, finding a legal alternative has always been very lucrative. In the past, I have tried many different alternatives, some which have not worked at all, and a few which have produced mild effects, but ultimately none have produced effects comparable to those of marijuana. After trying all I could get my hands on, I figured that wild dagga was my last shot. Despite the plant being much more expensive than other substitutes, I bought seven grams and hoped for the best.

It's important to note that for this experience, I was smoking the dagga flowers, which are the more potent part of the plant. Some people smoke the leaves, but most reputable sources will tell you to smoke the flowers. Anyways, the first thing I noticed about the dagga that separated it from the other marijuana alternatives, was that it looked nothing like marijuana. Most other substitutes attempt to resemble marijuana in some way, to encourage people to smoke it, but the wild dagga I got was just a small bag filled with inch long bright orange flowers. The flowers didn't have much of a distinct smell, just of any random spice. After taking a few minutes to examine the flowers, I decided to test them out, so I went outside and packed my first bowl.

The smoke was very smooth, with virtually no taste. After the first bowl I didn't feel anything, but I didn't expect to, so I smoked another bowl. Then I smoked another, and another, until I had smoked four bowls. At this point I felt rather disappointed, as I didn't feel high at all. I decided to clean out my bowl and went back inside feeling defeated. I went to my kitchen to get a glass of water and clean my pipe, when suddenly it hit me; I was high, I was pretty darn high. It was definitely very similar to marijuana, which was very surprising. The high was so similar, that I had to convince myself that I had actually smoked the dagga instead of smoking weed.

There were a few differences between the dagga and marijuana, the first being it takes a bit to kick in. With marijuana when I smoke it, it kicks in as the smoke is in my lungs. This was not true with dagga, it took about 5-10 minutes before I realized how high I was. Another difference was the potency, which was less than marijuana. As I stated before I'm not a heavy pot user, so I don't know how this would compare to someone who was, but I would describe my four bowls of dagga as similar to two or so bowls of weed, maybe a little less.

Maybe one bowl of really high quality weed, but still I would have had to smoke much more dagga to get as high as I usually get with weed. This isn't so bad though, considering dagga is cheaper than weed and much more readily available. The third and final difference was that it didn't last as long. The come up took 5-10 minutes, I peaked for about 20-40 minutes, and it took me about a half an hour to an hour to come down, with mild after effects lasting for the rest of the night.

To sum this whole story up, wild dagga is absolutely comparable to marijuana. The high was astonishingly similar, and while it does not last as long, it left me feeling happy and surprised with how high I got. I will most certainly be purchasing more in the future, and I am extremely glad that I found this plant.
