Salvia - I have heard many stories about others finding you very intense and even frightening unpleasant. Yet some people I have met find you absolutely incredible medicine. So I was curious.

Recently I realized I would like to have a deeper relationship with my enthogenic plants and fungus; I have invited any who wish to come settle in here. And so - some young Salvia cuttings found their way into my garden earlier this year. A few of the plants have grown into vibrant leafy, albeit small, bushes. It felt like the right time to know each other better.

I selected 9 fresh leaves from a few of the plants which weighed 3.37g. From these, I made three small balls mixed with some honey and retreated into my sacred space. My beloved was in the other room, available if I needed help, with a promise to check in on me in about 45 minutes.

I began with a small ritual to clear the space and set my intention of simply meeting Salvia and getting to understand a little bit more of this plant.

I began chewing a small ball of three leaves. The honey was very sweet initially, but underneath I began tasting the green slight bitterness begin to open up. I added the two remaining balls over the next ten minutes, holding the liquid in and not swallowing. Overall this part was not unpleasant as I had been told to expect. Occasionally the bitterness would feel overwhelming, but when I could remind myself this was simply Salvia`s introduction, it became easy. I chewed for 30 minutes; at about the 28 minute mark, I had a flash behind my eyes of an image.

I spat out the liquid and lay down. Immediately behind my eyes I had fast imagery that I had difficulty understanding. My impressions were of sharp edges like blades of grass, and very fast. I asked Salvia to slow down, and the images slowed and faded slightly. I began asking Salvia to please make itself known. I immediately felt a rush flash through me, which I took to be Salvia`s response. Imagery had pretty much ceased at this point. However I felt Salvia within my body in a very sensual way. Different than the more serpentine sensation of Grandmother, or the skin vibrations of snakeroot. This was more prickly (in a good way - like goosebumps) and seemed to bring a level of erotic arousal. This seems, at this dose, a really nice way to connect with a lover.

The effects ended fairly quickly (10-15 minutes, perhaps?) and soon the door opened and my beloved sitter arrived to check on me.

Salvia was very subtle at this dose. I would rate this on the Salvia scale 1.5 between subtle and altered. Overall this seemed like a good introduction to one another. I look forward to working up slowly with this plant.
