DOSE:
2 hits smoked Salvia divinorum (extract)
BODY WEIGHT: 190 lb
I had recently bought some '20X' strength Salvia and decided to use it with a good friend. She had never done it before, and I had tried it, but I wanted a trip that was a little more profound than the simple case of light-headedness I experienced my first attempt.

I prepared a spare room with pillows and blankets. I also lit some 'Opium' scented incense in the spirit of psychonautica. My friend and I sat down and loaded a pinch of the plant material into a bong. I held a lighter to the bowl and inhaled. The thick smoke bubbled through the water and filled my lungs. It wasn't harsh, although it didn't taste pleasant, like burnt leaves. I started coughing, and the effect of the Salvia was instantaneously noticeable. I felt drunk, but also somewhat dissociated. I would best describe it as mental tunnel vision. My thoughts, movements and speech weren't intuitive. I had to concentrate to form simple sentences. Moving my arms and hands was also a chore. It took all of my concentration to set the bong on the floor and unwrap my fingers from it. This feeling faded quickly, in around 15 seconds.

I was discouraged. This was nothing like the other experiences I had read about. But I was determined to learn what this sacred plant had to offer. I reloaded the bowl, with double the amount I had used before. I took a huge rip and held it for as long as I could. I knew that something intense was about to happen. In my last seconds of clarity, I set the bong down, laid back and for some reason lifted my hands above my face. That image froze in my vision. My fingers and arms melted together and began morphing into simple patterns. Blurry triangles, zigzags and fractals rapidly danced in front of me. Their colors smoothly transitioned between yellow, orange, red and purple. The patterns reminded me of the lines and dots of Australian Aboriginal art. As I saw these zigzags in my mind, I could feel their movements on my face like marching centipedes. The entire time this was happening, I was uncontrollably laughing. I knew my friend was watching me, thinking I had gone insane. The absurdity of the entire situation, coupled with my own maniacal laughter was hilarious. Or at least it was at that moment.

Apparently, my friend was asking if I was okay, but I was unaware of anything she said. The laughing stopped and my vision cleared. The entire experience lasted about 30 seconds, if that. I was not disappointed with my odd adventure, although I plan on continuing trying to unlock the secrets of the plant and my own psyche.
