Recollection of my one and only Bromo Dragonfly experience.

This was about 5 years ago with a good friend who has since passed away. The trip report was lost after his passing. The description of events below is from my own (faulty) memory.

Y: Male, ~75Kg, 21 years old.
I: Male, ~85Kg, 25 years old.

At Y's place, living room.

We had acquired 5 round blotters, about the size of the little circles left after perforating paper for filing, containing an unknown quantity of Bromo Dragonfly some 2 years previously. A vaguely remember it being mentioned they contained 1mg of active ingredient but I am highly dubious about this. They had been stored at room temp until we finally found the time to try it.

We started, I think, somewhere around 10 in the morning. We both placed one blotter under the tongue. I think there was a bitter taste, but I'm not sure about this after all this time. We waited and swallowed the blotter, I believe, about 30 to 45 minutes after sublingual administration.

In the first three hours after administration, a very extreme and uncomfortable body load became inescapable. This was unlike anything we had ever experience before. Or have experienced since. Imagine the worst body load on any of the other, more common psychs and multiply by at least 5. The physicality of it was truly horrible. A very heavy and lethargic feeling.
The physicality of it was truly horrible. A very heavy and lethargic feeling.
Visually, nothing was happening. Mentally we were both feeling sober.

Now what? Ride this out and hope that next time, when at some point we'll find the time to try it again, 1,5 blotter will do the trick? Or throw caution to the wind and take the 3 remaining blotters now? We decided on the latter approach and each consumed another 1,5 blotter.

In the three hours following, the body load increased even more. Just plain nasty and extremely uncomfortable all over. Luckily, visuals started to appear as well. I'm not sure about the timing but I know that six hours after initial ingestion, three hours after the second dose, my world was upside down, in a visual sense. I can't quite recall all the aspects of the visual effects. I do remember watching individual stones in the gravel outside switching colors at an extremely high speed. Subjectively, I would compare it to a 45mg dose of 2C-B, or 30mg of 4-HO-MiPT in visual intensity.

The body load was definitely the worst aspect of the trip of which visual aspects lasted a good 16 hours after the second dose. The only thing that made the experience manageable was complete mental sobriety. I think the experience would've been too much if there was even a little bit of mental clouding/fogginess. There was no mental psychedelia to speak of, only bodily and visual. We could discuss various difficult subjects and follow multiple threads of thought and conversation at the same time without loosing a beat. My friend even managed to explain to his father, via a telephone call, how to achieve something in Adobe Photoshop (without the actual program running in front of him), while he had the English version of Photoshop and his dad the German version, all the while conversing in Dutch. Never was there any difficulty in explaining/conversing/thinking.

After the visual aspect subsided, we were left with the intense body load. At this point we opted to take 1mg flunitrazepam to try and make ourselves a bit more comfortable. It was only after dosing a second milligram of flunitrazepam a slightly more comfortable state of being was achieved.

I'm not sure how long after this point we stayed awake. I think we watched some movies or tv-shows for quite some time.

At the time, and in retrospect, I found it to be a worthwhile experience that I wouldn't recommend anyone, only people well versed in psychedelic experiences. Was it fun? Well, yeah, we did have a good time, although it was difficult to separate the fun from the feelings of intense, general malaise.

Would I be willing to trip on Bromo Dragonfly again? Hell no! There are better, less toxic feeling, alternatives out there.
