My Second Salvia Trip
Buddy of mine and I picked up a little purple cylindrical plastic container with some Purple Haze font writing on the cover and transported it back to his place. High School kids, a general affection for gonzo journalism and a lot of big ideas, most of them well worded, and articulated on the daily in debate class.
We laid the dark black leaves onto the screen, a hefty amount, enough to fill the bowl, and brought the bong out into the backyard so as not to get smoke in the house...
I went first at the lighter, sparking it slowly and feeling my heart rate increase with excitement and anticipation. We watched in mounting fear and uncertainty as the see-through glass bong filled with thick, rich yellow smoke. I intended to inhale the smoke and then rush inside to his bedroom to lay down for the trip. When I inhaled the smoke, as much as I could lung-full anyway, I immediately felt a climbing rush in my spine and I heard a high pitch articulate English voice rush through my neural system saying 'Oh you're back again, huh? haha! Oh you're back again huh? Haha!' On repeat for the next 4.2 seconds until all went black and I (as later reported by Ian) stood stopped over the living room chair staring at it. Through my eyes, and I remember this well, I saw just blackness except for this: What appeared as all of my optical sensory intake condensed into two halos perpendicular to each other and rotating in slow, grand motion... in hindsight the picture wasn't unlike the slow motion of galaxies spiraling. Ian told me later that he had followed me into the house to guide me into the room to relax, but that upon entering the living room I stopped and stood staring wide eyed at the ground and at the chair. He said in addition to this, I then folded my body over the chair and touched my hands on it... coming to a sloppy stoned downward dog with hands pressed strangely on the seat of the chair. Ian described it later to me and we both had a heart laugh. My vision took me away from all natural reality that I'd known and transported me to another space in the observable universe. No body, no ground... floating halos rotating... fuggin epic.
Salvia was quite fun... My first experience around salvia didn't have me take it... I surrender to the moment with Shaolin Kung Fu and Tai Chi.
Smoking pot early on was different than it is now... We used to smoke pot there too... Back then the cars passing were alien and somebody else's universe... Smoking pot and doing drugs filled me with a responsibility to connect to life on Earth and make it better... Now I'm a dope ass artist.
