Made Me Puke and Little Else
Salvia officinalis (Common Sage)

DOSE:
1 bowl smoked Salvia officinalis (ground / crushed)
BODY WEIGHT: 125 lb
Smoking Ground Sage

3:45

Packed a bowl of sage straight out of a store bought spice container and proceeded to smoke it from a bong I usually use for weed. I have a very empty stomach (really only ate crackers today) and at various times throughout the day. I am suffering from depression related to an unrequited love. I also smoked some weed stems earlier in the day, the effects of which I no longer detect.

Prior to smoking the sage I felt very excited to try something new and different but a little nervous due to never having known anyone who tried smoking it the way I just did. It burned very well, not needing to be relit much, but also not burning quickly or “wastefully”. The smoke didn’t cause me to cough. I have a twinge of nausea but I’m almost certain its due to hunger. The sage smoke does not have an intense smell but that which there is smells pleasant and herbal. Nothing like weed. Theoretically, it would be impossible to confuse the smell of burning sage with weed. It smells like something that I would smell in a gift shop, like incense, or something else that is very out in the open and has no illegal implications.

Mentally not much happening although I’ve finished the bowl. I feel generally calm. I am choosing now to eat- will probably smoke another bowl’s worth in less than an hour, to see what happens.

Left my bedroom and returned, and now notice that there is a bit of a pungent after smell which I do not care for. I guess I take back what I said about it smelling like something that has no illegal implications. Although I’m sure most people wouldn’t be able to put their finger on it, the smell is a little sketchy, if I’m to be completely honest. In an environment where no smoking of any kind (even tobacco) is encouraged, sage smoking would also be out… at least by this method.

I ate some leftover pasta with parmesan cheese and the feeling in my stomach right now is unpleasant. I feel the urge to lay down and do nothing. I am curious to try more of the sage, but at this time since I have not noticed any positive effects and I am experiencing nausea
I have not noticed any positive effects and I am experiencing nausea
, I cannot in good conscience proceed with another dose without being concerned that I may worsen my experience. I will wait at least until the current nausea settles.

(Writing in hindsight)
At 5:45, 2 hours after smoking my kitchen spice from a bong, I vomited the contents of my stomach. It was two full vomits back to back. Very unpleasant. I’m 99% sure it was the sage, and nothing I had eaten which caused it. By now, my stomach has mostly settled. The worst was over once I was done vomiting. No further heights of any experience resembling a “high” like I would get with cannabis occurred. Not that it is related to the sage itself, but my increasing focus on the unrequited love I mentioned earlier lead me to tears in the evening. With that said, it's fair to say the sage literally did not help me at all in accomplishing ANYTHING I would have intentionally set out to accomplish, ie relaxation, open mind, creativity, sedation, etc.

Conclusion:

So far, the only drugs I’ve experienced are weed and DXM (cough syrup). My own psychological addiction to weed accounted for, of course. In short, life is really rough on people with mental illness. I feel like having some kind of go to for an escape once in a while is, among other things, compassionate.

I cannot say anything positive about my experience with sage and quite frankly I feel stupid. If there is any way to uncover its benefits, it definitely was not my way.

I will never again smoke kitchen spices and am personally discouraged from having anything to do with Sage Officinalis again.
