The Cigarette

When I was 13 years old, I was invited to parties where heavy drinking and smoking often occurred. This was back in 2010 in the UK.

Anyways, I was a very light drinker, mostly from peer pressure, and only gave in to have a few beers. As the party was progressing, one of my friends was going out to have a smoke with a few others, so I unsuspectingly walked out together with them.

Nice warm summer night, with a slight breeze, but I felt quite comfortable standing outside talking to my peers. One of them suddenly offered me a cigarette, and I just thought 'Ah well, sure' and placed it in my mouth. He held a lighter under the tip of the 'stick' and promptly lit the end, while telling me to lightly draw.

'Uh', I exclaimed. 'It tastes y'know... Kinda stale?'. They laughed a bit when I proceeded to cough from the throat hit, but then urged me to finish it, so I did.

When I had finished the first two thirds of it, I suddenly felt this flushing sensation over my body; It startled me. My world was spinning slightly, and I was struggling to keep balance. The (slight) euphoric sensation of flushing over my body continued for a few minutes, and then quickly subsided.

From that day on I decided that cigarette smoking was not worth it. Tasted awful, effects were awful.
