Setting - At the gig of a UK electronic music creator and innovator. A clue to the name of the artist is in the title of this report.

Set - I've been a fan of this artist for a long time. I had not been to many gigs the last few years, times have been busy since the appearance of offspring; the loves of my life. Music still remains a true love as much as ever. A true Brother in Manhood is due to meet me at the gig. Unfortunately on the day the Brother can't make it, a virus is going around. I am flying solo.

In my twenties, I liked to party. A daily herb smoker, weekend big drinker, consumer of whatever other potions came along. Approaching 40, I'm now pretty much teetotal. Run several times a week, eat healthy; gotta be in the best shape to guide my little people into the big world. I get a ticket for this musical Event months in advance. Back in the carefree days, this type of music would always be appreciated with an unknown amount of MDMA and whatever else was in the pills that would be popped like candy amongst friends.

What a perfect setting this could be to try ecstasy once more. Crystalline MDMA is procured, reagent tested and a dose is accurately weighed. I swallow the medicine walking down to the show. Get in and watch the warm-up DJ. Feeling some chills, keeping two sweaters on, just swaying gently at the back, soaking up the vibe of the room. Some chat at the bar with a friendly fellow humanoid. After a little while, a slight feeling of disconnect; for a moment the music seems clash, rash, brash, too punchy; not funky. Nothing unpleasant, just kind of cold; hood is put over head, hands in pockets.

Then, a little glow in the stomach; hands start to get warm. The DJ clicks back into place, the groove is alright now. Clothes feel soft and pleasurable against skin. As the warm up DJ finishes, I feel Ready. A feeling of readiness for the main act, ready for more. The Artist goes straight into his first tune from the final note of the warm up DJ. His sound is crystal clear, razor sharp, separated; the bass is felt through the floor, coming up the legs. Coming up. A feeling of lightness. I begin to dance properly. At first gently loosening the limbs, shaking out.

The room is getting warmer, hotter. The sweaters are gone, the sweat is coming. I'm Up. I am There. I feel light, bright, more than alright. The only option is to dance like life itself depends on it. To move gently through the crowd to near the front. To vibe off others who are also dancing from the heart. T-shirt is gone now too; it was soaked in sweat. To exchange smiles and handshakes. To drink orange juice and lemonade which tastes like heaven. To suck the ice cubes. To cheer each tune like a winning goal. To get lost in the light show for a moment. To feel fresh moments of ecstacy with each wicked drop in the music the Artist lays down. To pull new dance moves in sync with every drop and change in the music.

To walk back contented through the cool night air. To get in the shower and wash off the sweat. To eat fruit and drink a chocolate milk. To wake up early after 4 hours sleep with a glow and feel like the luckiest man alive, to be surrounded by a wife and children. I'll be doing this again sometime, a date with X. No hurry, the right occasion will come. Less is more with this medicine, I understand now. Maybe next time, the wife can be persuaded to try it, too.
