Between early 2016 and late 2017 I was a heavy alcoholic, drinking a fifth of straight alcohol a night nearly every night unless I didnt have money for it. I leaned towards gin but I went for vodka when I was feeling cheap.
In late 2017 I went to a rehab facility for 6 months and continued my sobriety from alcohol for another 6 months.
I began to casually drink and then slipped back into my alcoholic habit. I did not return to my fifth + a night, I limited myself to 1 pint of 100 proof vodka a night, I drank it from the bottle.
I did not return to my fifth + a night, I limited myself to 1 pint of 100 proof vodka a night, I drank it from the bottle.
After continuing that habit for a little over 2 months I began to notice symptoms of alcohol withdrawal between my nightly binges.
In the past I had never noticed these symptoms. My symptoms were signs of an oncoming heart attack, need to consciously control my breathing to keep my heart rate low (nights before I had my next bottle my heart rate was 110-128bpm) also severe dizziness that made me feel I was going to faint or die, my arms and legs would start to feel numb and fading vision. My anxiety of these effects worsened the symptoms of withdrawal.
In my efforts to cut myself off of alcohol again I revisited kratom, I have used kratom in the past.
Kratom greatly lessened my withdrawal symptoms of heart pain, chest discomfort, and severe dizziness from my alcohol withdrawal and helped me when I was ready stop drinking, this was not a solution for me to continue drinking.
Kratom in the past had helped distract me from alcohol, then helped me through withdrawal. But I'd say it became its own habit before my relapse but not nearly as big of a hurdle to stop as alcohol was for me.
Alcohol is not a fun drug to play with to its limits, withdrawals are scary as hell, I've been to the point I had to stop what I was doing and debating calling an ambulance for myself.
Just my experience, I didn't mix alcohol and kratom, I never felt a dependency on kratom, but kratom can become habitual like coffee.
