I became interested in Phenylpiractam for treating my ADHD. Without insurance, Adderall was expensive and my largely cannabis orientated plugs came up disappointingly short. I have also been exploring a great deal of Russian culture and contacted an individual who had ADHD in Russia where Adderall and Ritalin are apparently not legal. Doctors who even subscribe to ADHD being a real mental disorder prescribe Phenotropil (Phenylpiractam), a drug supposedly given to cosmonauts. The promise was that it would improve focus and memory without the euphoria or body effects of Adderall. As I had never particularly liked those effects, I immediately decided to give it a shot.
Although I initially intended to do a clean test, I was already on my way to the beach on the day the Phenotropil arrived. I actually had a pleasant little chat with my landlord about it. I took it with a swallow of Diet Coke and walked to the beach. At first, I felt nothing. I waited patiently for a bit, then broke out my vaporizer and applied a very small initial amount of weed. This went with a few swallows from the one beer [16 oz can of 6% alcohol] I would proceed to sip on for the next four hours. Then I put on my headphones and very patiently began to take in the sun for about an hour.
After about thirty minutes or so I realized I had developed an enormous sort of awareness. I watched a flock of about 30 birds take off and was able to track them individually, predicting their trajectories even as I looked at other members of the group. I observed the carbonation in a few golden drops of beer. I was able to pick out various snippets of conversation from the crowds about twenty feet away about boys and umbrellas. In short, I felt the observational "awe" that can come from cannabis but without the memory or focus shortfalls.

I decided to experiment with productivity a bit around the hour mark and I was able to do a little writing. Although phenylpiracetam is a stimulant it does not seem to provide the motivational oomph that Adderall can for someone with ADHD. I mainly took some notes about my experiences and then set that aside in favor of the Russian learning book I had brought along.
This was much more interesting. After lollygagging for about a week, I was able to push through the entire chapter learning the Cyrillic alphabet, with exercises. I didn't feel "propelled" by anything more than my own interest but I found I had an enhanced memory for the letters, was better able to visualize words, and could maintain a steady progress with only one or two breaks to stretch. I also took the extra time to check my work and it was actually quite good, except for one or two letters that I had mixed up. This was out of three decently sized exercises with about 60 or so answers I had to provide. Considering that I was stoned and enjoying my drink and listening to some music, I was very impressed with my performance.
Going through the chapter and doing the exercises with breaks took me around three hours. I was certainly moving at my own pace, not the rush of Adderall at all, but careful and relatively meticulous.
Eventually the evenings winds kicked up and I felt it was time to leave the beach. I had not suffered any noticeable negative side effects and in fact I was feeling a little better than before I had taken the drug (I had been suffering from some Pakistani food diarrhea in the morning which surely affected my mood). I ate some snack food and went home.
I think this drug showed promise, especially as it performed at a relatively low dose while I was impaired.
