1 hit smoked Cannabis
2.6 - 4 seeds insufflated Anadenanthera peregrina (ground / crushed)
BODY WEIGHT: 195 lb
I have been fascinated by entheogens and their cultural use for some time and finding a way to access/try one of the DMT analogs has been a goal of mine for a long while. My experience with psychedelics was limited to mushrooms and I was keen to branch out. After much research I decided preparing yopo from Anadenanthera Peregrina seeds was the most easily accessible method available to me. After reading all the trip reports I concluded that proper administration was key to a positive trip, as most of the difficult experiences seemed to be from snorting the yopo like you would a line of coke as opposed to the traditional way of blowing the powder into one’s nasal cavity. I was hoping that by taking it properly I could avoid the intense body load and nausea causing throat drip.

I purchased some seeds from an online store as well as a Kuripe to administer the snuff, and I already had edible lime (CaOH) ready to use in the snuff mix. About 8 seeds were toasted on the stove until they popped, then ground with a mortar and pestle. I added 1/4 the weight of the seeds of edible lime then ground again. I then added just enough water to make a paste then let this dry in the sun. After re-grinding I had a small amount of yopo which I saved for later.

A few weeks later after work one day I was feeling courageous enough to try it. It was around dusk so I put on the outside light in my backyard and sat down with the yopo, kuripe and a bucket on standby just in case. I had a small hit of weed to calm my nerves and started some tranquil ambient music on my headphones but it did little to slow my racing heartbeat. I loaded up some powder into the kuripe and shot it into my right nostril with one sharp blow. The pain was strong but bearable, tears streaming down my face as I loaded up again for the other nostril (around 1/3 to 1/2 of the mixture was used in total). After the second dose I sat back and waited for the effects to begin.

A few minutes in I began to feel a great heaviness in my body, from my experience with mushroom trips I could tell this was going to hit me hard. After another few minutes my perception instantly and completely transformed as if a switch had been turned on in my brain. I took my headphones off and looked around to take in my surroundings because I was far too stimulated to cope with any kind of music.

My vision took on a kind of digital grain and I saw strange arabesque patterns on every surface. The closest thing I could compare the visuals to would be the cell shaded art style in some games and cartoons - edges became more defined, colours blended into each other and when I moved my head the nearby plant foliage seemed to follow as if it was watching me. The night was eerie and silent, and combined with the low light levels gave the effect that I had broken through to a different plane of existence where people didn’t exist. I was shocked how pervasive and intense the hallucination was, having only been accustomed to the more imaginative trips from psilocybin. Every shadow, object and surface I saw took on a beautiful alien symmetry that is hard to put into words.

My head was pounding, and I felt a little uncomfortable physically with an undercurrent of nausea. I thought it would be a good idea to retreat to my bed which is my safe space, so I got up and went inside. The nausea increased as I made my way to my bedroom where I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror – my entire head, neck and eyes were a dark deep red and my skin was overlaid with strange patterns of the same perfect symmetry. At this point I felt like I was about to purge so I went quickly back outside and hunched over the bucket on my back lawn. I found if I sat dead still I was able to stave off the nausea so I laid down on the grass and peered up at the night sky, surrendering to the experience.

Upon closing my eyes I saw rapid CEV’s of 3d shapes, landscapes and people shifting too quickly for me to focus on any one scene. I couldn’t tell you how much time had passed but it had gotten dark and when I opened my eyes the visuals continued, overlaid over the night sky. I also started to hear a faint whine as well as intermittent chatters of distant laughter or crying. The night was punctuated by random knocks and sudden sounds coming from towards the house – I looked over nervously every time but couldn’t see the source of the sound.

At this point the nausea came to a head and I quickly grabbed the bucket just in time to violently purge the contents of my stomach and blow out the copious amounts of mucus that were building in my sinuses. This brought a sense of relief as the nausea eased but the dull pounding in my head continued. I laid back down a little exhausted; at this point I was just ready for it all to end!

Thankfully the experience started to wind down shortly after and all I was left with was a headache, a dull pain in my sinuses and a lump in my throat. My vision was a little unfocused and I saw suggestions of the same patterns for about half an hour or so after the experience. I found it quite taxing physically and didn’t seem to experience any of the euphoria sometimes reported from bufotenine use. Overall, it was a worthwhile experience but I am definitely not in a hurry to try again!
