My first experience with psychedelics was LSD. It was a breathtaking experience that left me with this simple yet powerful feeling and realization that I was home. It felt like I was always meant to reach this state. I had this thought that I am God but so are others, it was so confusing. At that moment I stopped being an atheist.

Then I tried ecstacy at a nightclub with psytrance music. It was definitely more of a body high compared to LSD, where I felt, for lack of a better word, ecstatic. The music just pumped this mammoth wave of energy into me. It was all energy and oneness with the crowd. I danced without any inhibitions. It felt like I was set free.

I noticed how different each drug was and I was researching what I should take next because I was left wanting more, like I needed more answers after those trips. I kept hearing about how strong a DMT trip is so I decided to get Changa, which is a concoction of ayahuasca and other herbs. I felt like my prior meeting with God or existence or myself was not over.

I was in a hotel room by myself holding a pipe with a smidgen of Changa in it. I layed on the bed and lit the pipe. I inhaled deeply and immediately felt its effects rushing in. For good measure, I took two more hits making sure I got all of the Changa stuffed in the pipe. I closed my eyes.

I was transported to this realm where there was geometry in motion. My ego subsided to the point where I felt only slightly rooted to the real world and my thoughts. This was no place for humans, my experience was telling me. Again I am not sure if this was interaction with my own mind or something more divine. This question was immediately answered with the realization that it's both.

Visually this felt stronger than the acid. I saw bright intricate patterns cascading, wave after wave, easily overwhelming me. I started to breathe slowly and deeply. The images seemed to morph into rotating pillars, colors of green and yellow then red and blue. It felt like I was falling one moment, then I moved forward and sideways. I was being taken apart by this holy plant. I tried to remember to breathe slowly which seemed to stabilize the trip.

I am sure I am leaving out parts of this trip as certain things can only be experienced and I am not able to remember everything from this astral world. Words and our feeble perception of it can only go so far. I recall seeing richly animated totems, eyes darting around and smiling. This was replaced by these curved architectural patterns eerily similar to Mayan and Incan art. I was lost in this labyrinth of colors and fractals. The analytical part of me wondered whether this was both the start of the universe and the end of the universe. A place so epic and beautiful yet devoid of the body and mind. There was no self here. I need not seek anymore. I had just simply died. But I also felt like being truly alive for the second time, first being my acid trip. It was all paradoxes and logic failed here.

Something I forgot to mention was that somehow the visuals got weaker if I had thoughts about the real world. The patterns could only dance when my mind was without thoughts. After about fifteen minutes, the visuals and feelings of unity, oneness, and monism withered away bringing me back to the real world.
