I am so happy to be able to offer this report and contribute to the knowledge of DMT in however small a way. I want to make clear from the outset that I know my experience was only a ‘mild introduction’ to what this molecule can do, but my mind has been truly blown in a good way and I cannot wait to go much, much deeper with DMT. Tonight I took three, small DMT trips.
I am 43 years old, have been a cannabis vaper for too long but have a little bit of experience with most drugs. DMT was and is a completely new experience for me, something I have been wanting to try for a long time. I was gifted a small vape pen by my awesome, generous brother.
The cartridge on the pen was filled with a brown e-liquid with what appears to be slivers of DMT freebase mashed in to the liquid albeit not very well because the majority of the actual DMT seems to have congealed at the top of the cart where I don’t see how I am going to be able to vape it al

I planned to take it tonight (10pm) and settled in my man-cave, essentially a premium teenage boys bedroom with shelves of DVDs and video games, dual screen PC and a lovely comfy single bed at the end of the room. I have read a lot about DMT experiences and watched many videos about it on YT, particularly lectures by Terrence McKenna. I understood and made sure that I went into the experience with good cheer and was mindful not to try and ask for anything. But my primary aim was simple and I hoped, unselfish - I just wanted to know if we are alone or not.
I got my answer.
I lay on the bed with a few different lamps on and left both screens of my PC playing videos with the sound down. Both of my cats decided to make camp on my legs as I lay there psyching myself up to take a first hit. I wasn’t anxious about taking the drug at all, but I was nervous about what I might see as I am prone to depression and anxiety, to put it mildly.
First trip: I took a single, long hit from the vape pen, maybe for 7-8 seconds, very little visible vapour emerged if any. Immediately the The Expanse poster hanging at the end of my bed seemed to swirl and come alive, pretty kind of standard ‘hallucinogen’ effect. I didn’t know whether to keep my eyes open or closed, I think when I tried to close them, they seemed to open again by themselves, forcing me to look around and it was fantastic! The whole room took on a bizarre cartoonish quality, like I was in a 3D version of the Simpsons. It was so ‘consistent’, all of the objects that were straight lines were really really straight like they had been drawn on a computer. The frame of the Expanse poster, made out of pine wood now looked like it was made from solid, orange plastic, the colour of everything was just immediately dialled up to 11. I was enjoying the visuals for a few minutes, particularly pleased that I didn’t feel any nausea or anything remotely unpleasant. It was just fast, transformation of the room into something unreal and brightly coloured, it was lovely.
Second trip. Still lying on my bed, about 20 minutes later, I decided to do it again. This time I took two big hits. Again, the room transformed into this spongy, cartoonish reality, everything incredibly colourful, literally like someone had turned the colour up to max on a TV. This time, things were changing shape and size and colour, the walls would change from white to blue and purple but again, everything seemed to move - I purposefully looked at different things to see what the ‘effect’ was, usually swirling and changing colour and shape but I was still very much conscious and very much still in my room. Awesome and fun as this was, it wasn’t that far removed from how a hallucinogenic trip might be depicted in a cartoon. Then I looked at my cats who were both lying sprawled across my legs. They looked like strange, cuddly toys, as if they were made entirely of thick fur only. There was another effect to them that I can’t really describe, they looked ancient but also looked like they were blended into my legs and bed. I looked at my hands and they looked exactly like they were made out of plastic. I was drawn repeatedly to any text in the room, the text on the blessed Expanse poster was shifting and changing into something else, an indecipherable written language that moved on its own. I won’t bore you with more such banal observations but I was enjoying it all and smiling, it was lovely and sweet and strange.
Third trip. I waited about another 15 minutes after I felt like the last dose had worn off and decided to really go for it. This time I took 4 massive hits from the pen. Again the room became alive with colour and shifting of shapes, again the cats looked like they were soft toys part of a weird, brightly coloured ‘Mr Strange’ spongey cartoon world but dimensions of everything elongated shifting. Again, as before, lovely and fun, powerful. I closed my eyes.
At first I didn’t see much. I could see huge fractal patterns but they were ‘low light’, like I could see them but they weren’t especially bright. I worried a bit that I hadn’t taken enough DMT so I took two more big hits keeping my eyes closed and I saw ‘The Chrysanthemum’. This is a very common visual apparently and has been described as a kind of waiting room prior to making a breakthrough. I was especially thrilled to see it, it was fractal and moving and infinitely complex but overall still a chrysanthemum shape. You see, I had read about the chrysanthemum before but I don’t know anything about flowers, I had no idea what a chrysanthemum looked like but after my trip ended I checked it on Google and yep, lo and behold, what I saw was the chrysanthemum.
I should remind you again that I believe due to the device I was using and presumed low amount of DMT in the cart that although my dose was relatively massive, I still felt that I had technically taken very little DMT. I don’t know if it is even possible to take the amount of DMT that a glass pipe smoker would get, but this was what I was working with. After less than a few mins, I became convinced the drug was wearing off. What I was seeing behind my eyes was low light fractals, interesting but abstract. This is where it gets weird, I am getting chills now writing this.
Amidst the trippy, low light abstractions, I got a sense of a presence, something pink and formless peeking at me, I couldn’t describe it, just a kind of pinkish light being I guess like a jelly fish but devoid of visual detail, just checking me out for a few moments and then disappearing. The backdrop to this was still quite dark, when I opened my eyes the room was still Psychedelic City so I closed my eyes one last time, still quite dark.
To my right I could see a short chain of moving characters or code, in a simple shape I guess like a hangman’s noose in the game of hangman, I couldn’t really focus on it, it was like a chain of numbers, not very long, too small/far away to discern anything other than the shape. It was then that I realised this object was distracting me.
Further to my right I became aware of a strange ‘probing’ of me, I wish I could describe it better but it was like some kind of warbling, vaguely machine like bubbling/purring in my jaw, as if I was being scanned by something but the something was on the other side of a veil, like it was poking me gently through a curtain. To be clear, I couldn’t see very much, a vague, white shape in the far right of my field of vision, it was just a feeling and it’s so hard to describe that it is becoming hard to remember but I’m telling you this now, it was an alien being, it was truly, truly alien. I felt an intimacy with this being, I would describe it as curious and patient.I believe it was trying to convey information to me and learning about me as it did so, but it was very gentle, almost childlike but definitely alien. It seemed to understand that I was concerned that the drug was wearing off but it persisted with its strange gentle probing. I repeatedly said aloud ‘Thank you for showing me your miracles’ and ‘I will come back I promise’, I opened my eyes and kept repeating these words, laughing and smiling as my technicolour man cave returned to normal after a few minutes.
I appreciate how all of these words don’t really fit the DMT experience at all beyond the visual of the chrysanthemum, I didn’t see any elves or jesters or anything like that but I felt something truly strange and alien. I am 100% convinced it was another intelligence but where it came from I have no idea, it’s certainly extra dimensional, I just can’t describe how thrilled I am at making this connection. I feel like the DMT wants you to take it and that it wants to give you ‘gifts’ - I have spent most of my adult life obsessed by ufology, alien abductions and the like but this was a real alien, truly alien in every sense of the word.
As I have said before I think all of this occurred on a very low dose. I feel like I barely scratched the surface of how deep this rabbithole goes, like I wasn’t even at the entrance trying to get in somewhere, I was merely approaching the entrance. There is something truly magical about this molecule.
