2 hits smoked Salvia divinorum (extract - 5x)
  a bowls smoked Cannabis (flowers)
I had been told about Salvia by a friend, and was quite enthusiastic to get some and try it. First I read all I could about it on the internet, to the point where I felt that I was at least mentally prepared for its effects. However, I soon found out that one's preparedness does little to offset the strangeness of Salvia's effects. At the time, my best friend was traveling in Australia and sent me some 5x Salvia extract by mail. His experience had been less than stellar and he doubted whether Salvia even worked. Well let me say, it worked.

I had read of the importance of having a sitter the first time, so on the appointed day, a friend of mine came over to help. This all occurred about 11:00am on a sunny day. In any event, I sat down on the couch and prepared to take my first Salvia journey. My mindset was calm and relaxed, with only a hint of apprehension. As I usually do, I tried to tune into the more spiritual aspects of the drug, to try to glean whatever teachings this plant could offer me. With that in mind, I loaded up my wooden weed pipe full of Salvia. I lit it and inhaled a huge lung-full. Immediately I was struck by the familiarity of the taste and feel of the smoke. It was a feeling of 'Oh yeah, I've done this before', which of course I hadn't. The smoke wasn't as harsh as I'd imagined, in fact it had a sweet taste, somewhat reminiscent of opium, not unpleasant at all. I held the hit for perhaps 20 seconds, exhaled, and took another smaller hit.

By this point my body began to feel quite strange, with a sort a prickly pins-and-needles feeling all through it, sort of like when my foot falls asleep. I was conscious enough to put down the pipe, close my eyes and recline, and by that point I was already tripping. I became aware of beautiful music playing in my head, music that I was making up on the spot (I am a musician). This music was accompanied by closed-eye visuals of fractal patterns vibrating in perfect rhythm with the music. These fractal patterns began to move in a clockwise motion, gradually filling up my entire visual space. At this point I became aware of a strong pulling sensation from my right, and I sensed the presence of other spirits, or energies. I sensed a male figure and 2 female, and sensed is a good description for I could neither see or hear them. They were somehow speaking directly to my brain with no senses involved. The male seemed to be the dominant force, and they all urged me to 'release' and 'come with us'. These phrases became almost a mantra as these spirits attempted to pull me from my body, thus the pulling sensation.

The male seemed to be the dominant force, and they all urged me to 'release' and 'come with us'. These phrases became almost a mantra as these spirits attempted to pull me from my body, thus the pulling sensation.
However, it was not frightening in any way. It was clear that I was welcome and was being invited. I could tell these spirits meant me no harm but wanted to show me something.

However, I was too distracted to 'release' completely. I became aware of the couch pressing against me and became uncomfortable. This, combined with the sounds of my friend playing video games, brought me gradually back to reality. I later asked my friend how long I had been gone for, he reckoned about 5 minutes or so. At this point the peak had passed and I lay there for a few minutes, feeling apprehensive about opening my eyes. When I did I felt very strange. I had the thought that maybe I had come back to the wrong dimension. I said something to this affect to my friend who looked at me like I was crazy. At this point I felt the need to feel something familiar so I went outside to the sunshine and smoked a bowl of weed. I believe this lengthened the comedown, which was similar to a shroom comedown and lasted maybe an hour and a half.

However, the effects of Salvia had much more subtle properties as well. In the weeks that followed, I noticed that some of my thought patterns had changed. I became much more aware of plants and trees and would find myself staring at them, marveling at their size and beauty, like I could feel their spiritual energy. This leads me to believe that Salvia is a very important bridge between the human and plant worlds and can be a very useful teacher. Although I still have enough Salvia for several trips, I haven't tried it since and it's been nearly a year. It is a very powerful drug, unlike anything I've ever tried before.
