I had just turned 21 a few months before, and even though I had been around cannabis quite a bit before, my brother was a smoker, this night would be my first.

My brother's friend invited us over for a night of socializing and spent all day cooking a pot of pasta sauce for the party. There were about six of us total, my brother, his friend, the friends roommate, his little brother, their friend and myself.

About eight that night on a cool late September night in Portland, Oregon, we put Cheech and Chong's Nice Dreams in the VCR and they lit up the pipe filled with some potent Pacific Northwest hydro and started passing it around. When it came my way, I was somewhat scared to try it because of hearing horror stories about bum trips, so I passed it to the little brother of the roommate. my brother said I was being a bit paranoid and told me that it would help me sleep since my insomnia was well known to people around me.

I started contemplating after that, seeing my brother and our friends starting to appear relaxed and knowing that I've been wanting to try it now and then, I decided to try a 'hit' after the third or fourth time it came around to me. After the small stash that my brother offered was gone, we started to eat, and after I was halfway through my plate, I started to notice that the pasta sauce tasted richer and I could notice each and every ingredient in it and could focus on things around me at the same time. I asked my brother's friend if he put in a certain ingredient, and his jaw just about dropped because he said it was one of his secret ingredients and usually didn't put in enough for anyone to notice it, but being somewhat of a gourmet cook myself, I could tell it was in there. After his friend told me this, my brother laughed and said that I was stoned, which caused the rest of the group to crack up :-)

Anyways, after we all had our laugh, my brother asked me how I liked my first experience, and I told him that it was incredible and that I liked it. He then told me to focus on the movie. The first thing I noticed was a total depth perception and that I could hear in 3D and that my own thoughts seemed unjumbled.

After about three hours and several more pass arounds, the party ended and we all crashed where we laid, and I woke up the next morning having had the best nights sleep in thirteen years.
