I was fist introduced to the concept by a friend of mine named Jose who proposed that we should smoke pipe tobacco out of his hookah. I have been smoking for a number of years now and I must say I find this the most pleasurable way to smoke. Smoking out of a hookah or bong allows the smoke to cool and makes it much easier to inhale. Pipe tobacco is also very fragrant and leaves a pleasant taste on the tongue. There is a certain distinct high which accompanies smoking out of water. One enters a slightly euphoric state, feeling very lightheaded, and on occasion some what sleepy. Ones preception of things changes very little, save that everything seems somewhat removed and distant from you. The high only lasts for about 20 minutes, during which time one is fully able to function. These mild effects are extremely relaxing, and ideal for times of reflection and introspection.
