Yeah, yeah, yeah, speed can be a Bad Drug, we all know what it can do to our friends and some of us have had some unpleasantries with it as well. But it can have its good side. This was one of the best times for me.
A very unfortunate result of drug prohibition--especially with speed! -- is that You Never Know What Sort of Crap You Are Getting. This bag was exactly what it was supposed to be, and had that smell that actual methamphetamine is supposed to have. New users should never do a bag up by themselves without an experienced tweaker first analyzing the material for some semblance of purity. (And it should be someone who is not in any way connected with the one selling the bag! Dealers of substances that cause dependancy syndromes are unfortunately often notorious liars.)
An important rule with tweak: HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WHILE YOU ARE ON IT. Amphetamine psychosis usually finds its home in a mind grinding on itself mercilessly with nothing else to focus on. Doing it to 'party' really never worked for me

, although your...uh...mileage may vary. :-)
I can pretty much guarantee that anyone in a public gathering who's not on the same drug you are will find you an obnoxious boor if you run around tweaking your face off yakking at people. And if your friends ARE tweaking, none of you will have actual conversations but instead have interrupting-fests that would be comical if they weren't so bloody annoying to everyone concerned.
Speed shows its bad face in public and its good face in the user's interaction with his or her work. If you write, paint or make music you'll be able to focus on the process and tune out everything else. Speed gives your mind a highway to zoom down. Make sure that road has a destination and you'll have less anxiety and other mental garbage interfering. Most tweak freakouts seem to happen when people take speed for partying or sex and then the party or the sex ends.
I spent two solid days finishing a writing project which had been languishing under the curse of Not Enough Energy and Focus for several years. I kept some marijuana around.
One caveat: writers should always edit their work afterwards in a non-tweaked condition after having tweaked on it for long periods of time. If you're anything like me, you will end up filling your sentences with WAY too many subordinate clauses.
Marijuana or benzodiazepine tranquilizers like Valium help the spiky slope of Coming Down. Valium will put me right to sleep if need be but my mind will likely feel a tad bit imbalanced for as long as three to five days afterwards. With this tweak session I used indica weed to come down and since I was so pleased with the cumulative effects of the speed it was really all that I needed. I finally came down after about 38 to 42 hours and spent the last of them websurfing stoned and half tweaked, finding just about everything I looked at very funny and sometimes insightful.
I find speed a yang balance to the yin of the psychedelic's usual slant towards the spiritual. It's a thoroughly intellectual high or at least is for me. I don't use it a lot, and don't use the needle. I remember to sleep and take fluids, and also force myself to eat something.
