I love DXM, and have experimented with it frequently, mainly because it's legal and it's cheap. The first time I did DXM I drank a bottle of Robitussin and was pretty messed up, but noticed an unpleasent itchy feeling which made the experience much less enjoyable. I was expecting this.

The next time I did it I opted to buy the Longs Generic Brand because it was much cheaper ($3.99 for a four ounce bottle as oppose to $6.99), and loe and behold, no itching. I tried it again later to see if it was just a fluke and noticed the same thing. Then later I tried a bottle of Robitussin again and experienced more unpleasent itching. Seeing as both the generic brand and Robitussin contain the same active ingredients (alcohol and DXM) then the itching may be caused by some inactive ingredient as oppose to the DXM itself, contrary to what I have been told. I noticed that the Robo was thicker than the generic brand, so maybe that has something to do with it. I only buy the generic brand now, because it is significantly cheaper and has less side effects.
