Amanita Muscaria Details

There was an article in the mid 70's in High Times magazine about amanitas. It was quite thorough and written by Tom Robbins the fiction writer. In it he made some very important points.

First of all, the dosage varies from place to place and from mushroom to mushroom, so there is no standard approach to dosage. Extreme care and patience in the sampling process is essential. Secondly, he said that the standard hospital treatment for mushroom poisoning is to inject atropine to dilate the blood vessels and help flush out the toxins. However amanitas are atypical and atropine magnifies its effects. Apparently what can happen is that someone takes too much, goes to the hospital, gets atropined, gets worse, gets more atropine, gets even worse, gets even more etc etc, dies. He said that this was the main cause of fatalities from amanita muscaria.

My own cautious adventure involved some small muscaria in Ontario Canada. There is no doubt whatsover in IDing them if you stick to the red caps with the white dots. There are many many different shades of varieties through the oranges to yellows, bronzes, greens, and the white 'Destroying Angel', but there is no reason to mistake any of these for the red ones.

I took a bite of one and waited for about an hour and had no alteration in my head so I took one more bite. Tried listening to music and playing music as a test but found no difference. Due to Mr. Robbins' cautions I quit at that point and went to bed.

As soon as it turned out the light, whoosh, all sorts of stuff happening. Light back on, open eyes, completely normal. Light off, eyes closed, big adventures, including looking around the room with my eyes closed and significant objective dream visions.
So in my case at that time, it was strictly an experience in the non-sensory mind realm. Engaging in my sensory mind in the material world effectively masked the experience. It was totally different from other mushroom experiences I had had.

I experimented a little more but found that my liver was feeling a bit strange so I quit.

My feelings about the little guys is that they are a connected in some way to a very high consciousness and deserve a great deal of respect. The symbiotic nature of their relationship with certain trees is a clue to the sophistication of their being.
