Over a period of 12 months, I have tried methylone 10 times with varying doses (100mg - 450mg). What I can say is that it is definitely not MDMA, although it does have a definite serotonin component. It gives me a hangover, just like MDMA, and with larger doses, it does have an MDMA character (empathy, sociability etc.). For me, methylone has a strong amphetamine-like stimulation coupled with a moderate MDMA-like serotonin component. To get a strong serotonin experience, I have to suffer a strong amphetamine body load with this compound (200+ mg for me). Methylone does cause nystagmus and closed eye visuals at large doses (175+ mg), especially when snorted. In this case, it is the rapid absorption rather than bypass of digestive system enzymes that increases the effect. Methylone seems to be quite benign and painless to snort.

At 250+ mg snorted, I had some quite intense closed eye visuals - more than anything I have had with MDMA though of similar type. A velvet black background wth myriads of glowing hexagonal outlines filling the visual field and distorted to follow concentric patterns. Waves of brilliant colour pulsed out from the centre in blue, green and red. The effect was stunning, but not worth the hangover that followed.

For my bodyweight, 175 mg is just right: stimulated and empathetic with friends without the embarassing over-indulgance that MDMA can cause. Any more and the hangover is just too much.
