I'm a freelance writer, and I've taken on too much work. I've got about 200 hours worth of work to do in a week. I'm already on a number of psychosomatic drugs (Zyprexa, Effexor, etc) for depression and paranioa.

I was freaking out about the deadlines. I mean, I was in full panic attack mode--paranoid, pounding tachacardia , sweating, shaking, the desire to run away. My prn was 5MG of Zyprexa and it didn't alleviate the symptoms at all. So I called my therapist to phone in something better. Well, clonazepam is a controlled substance so she can't phone it in. I had to go get the script and take it to the drug store.

When I got it home, the directions read '1mg every 4 hours' so I did a little research and discovered the LD-50 is well over 4000mg--so I saw no reason to not take 10mg. Ten times my recommended dose.

After about 45 minutes, I started to feel drowsy and detached. Suddenly, the things that worried me seemed so far away and inconsequential. I fell into a zombie state, everything seemed far away, as if I was looking down a long tunnel. My muscles relaxed and I felt like taking a nap.

I hit my bed and cuddled up under the covers. It was mid-afternoon. I was asleep almost immediately. I slept for about 5 hours and woke up totally confused. I thought it was tomorrow, I didn't know why it was dark out and why people downstairs were talking and playing drinking games. I looked at my clock, it read 8:13 PM, and I didn't know what day it was. Then it all came back to me.

I was hung over, not in an unpleasant way but just logy and rubbery and sort of out of it. My roommates invited me to play quarters but I just sat on the couch and watched TV.

By the next day, I was feeling normal again. My anxiety was back, so this time I took the clonazepam as directed. 1mg took the edge off, but it didn't make everything seem wonderful like the higher dose had done.

I'm not sure I'd call it recreational use--the high wasn't euphoric like pot or E, there was no mind-altering stuff like LSD or shrooms, it just sort of relaxed me.

For the record, I didn't get shit done that night and I had to scramble and pull all-nighters for the rest of the week.
