I knew coke was addictive before using it but I didn't think it would affect me. I didn't associate with coke users because I wanted to protect my privacy. I used cocaine to give me energy and to wake up in the mornings. My dealer was a 'friend' and delivered it to me.

Seventy thousand dollars later, my son found my stash and I came clean about my addiction. I didn't use everyday so I thought I was in control. My dealer extended credit because I make good money. One day he called to collect. I owed more than 20 grand.

I lied to everyone but the biggest sucker was me.

My ears and nose are screwed. My sleep patterns are out of whack. My immune system has been compromised.

An ex-addict once told me that the difference between the pot culture and the coke culture was that the coke dealer carries a gun and will use it.
