Bags vs. Leaves
Citation: StIves. "Bags vs. Leaves: An Experience with Coca Tea (exp54183)". Erowid.org. Apr 1, 2018. erowid.org/exp/54183
While living in South America I had two experiences with coca tea. The first batch I brewed myself from commercially-produced coca tea bags. This resulted in a decent herbal tea but no significant psychoactive effects.
A month later I was having breakfast in a La Paz cafe and ordered some coca tea. Floating in the cup when it arrived were a half-dozen fresh leaves. This tasted much better. It also produced a stimulant buzz similar to caffeine but 'cleaner' - more cerebral and less physical. I would describe it as a mild feeling of lightness and euphoria that dissipated to baseline within half an hour.
I concluded there that there was really no contest: fresh whole leaves produced the superior tea.
