DOSE:
2 Tbsp oral Nutmeg (dried)
BODY WEIGHT: 150 lb
I was 14 years old in 1983, a young stoner. I found in my brother's room a copy of the 1977 edition of High Times Encyclopedia of Recreational Drugs. I really enjoyed reading it and was very suprised when I came across an article that claimed the spice nutmeg was hallucinogenic. Nutmeg? Like in the
kitchen? I had to try it. I found some in the spice rack and proceeded to mix two tablespoons in hot water. I remember my brother walking into the kitchen and seeing what I was doing, remarked, 'Ugh!'.
After he left I chugged it down. Bro' was right............ugh. Very nasty stuff. I waited a couple of hours and felt nothing. Disappointed, I went to bed.

I awoke at 6:00 A.M. Stoned. Really, really stoned, like I had smoked some
premo bud. I was estatic, the stuff really did work! Well, I got ready for school (yes I had to go to school all fucked up) then left the house and got on the bus. I sat down by a girl in my class and tried like hell to not laugh, everything was so funny. Being that her older brother was a stoner, she knew I was on something. What was the high like? It was much like the high from marijuana, but more. There was a strong feeling of euphoria, more than is present with pot. And then there was the time distortion, time seemed to just crawl by, and I also seemed to have a heightened awareness of the past. I was
stoked that I had found out about nutmeg!

Somehow I made it through the school day. When I arrived home my appetite was tremendous, I immediately went to the kitchen and devoured various snacks. That is another thing the spice does, it increases your appetite. After my chow-down I went to my room to listen to music. It was pure bliss! I felt like I was floating on top of the music.

I spent the rest of the evening enjoying my discovery. When the time came to go to bed, I found myself incredibly relaxed, it was as if I melted into the bed. I slept deeply and peacefully. Then................

I awoke at 6:00 A.M. Still stoned. Yes, I was still high, but it was different. Whereas the day before I felt an 'upward pull', the second day I felt a 'downward pull'. This was the hangover that the article in the High Times book mentioned, but it was not at all unpleasant to me, in fact it felt pretty good. I was deeply relaxed, euphoric, and I still retained some of the time-distortion that I had experienced the day before. I told my mother I didn't feel well (tremendous lie) and she let me stay home. So the rest of the
day was a most pleasant, lethargic bliss-out.

I did nutmeg many times after that, in fact it became a weekend ritual for me. On Saturday mornings I would ride my bike to the store and buy a can of 'meg. I would always be sure to ingest it at around 1-2 P.M. This way, the buzz would hit me at around 5:00 P.M., and I could enjoy its onset in the beautiful
late afternoon sun. Then I would have a truly stony night.

I've read a lot of reports on nutmeg, and many of them contain unpleasant experiences. As for me however, I have nothing but fond memories of that awesome spice!
