For me taking methadone is like being stuck in a dream where I can't speak correctly. At least after I've been taking it for more than a day, 2-3 pills at a time a few times a day. Nights meld into days and there is a constant battle going on between my finger nails and the skin all over your body.

We started off on a tuesday night. I had just picked up my friend from the airport and no more than a minute later he tosses me three methadone. At this point I'm thinking to myself 'this is going to be an interesting week.' 'Buttons up' he says, and I throw the pills in my mouth. Three may sound a little crazy for some, but I knew exactly what I was doing.

The start of a methadone trip is always the worse. Not in a sickly way but in an annoyed, impatient way. 'When am I going to get the itch?' Like clockwork, thirty minutes after the first tabs I get the first itch. This is no normal itch, its an itch from heaven. Never in my life have I felt so good by itching. It continues, throughout the night, when going to sleep, when taking a shower. There is no escaping it, but escaping it is the last thing I want to do. At least for now.

By day 3 of this contant methadone trip everything seems to be melting away. I can't get a grip on reality. Everything seems distant and sleep sounds so good as I almost fall asleep at the wheel or on the desk in my office. The itch is killing me now. Over the past days I have itched so much that when I step in the shower my skins burns and tingles and feels fake.

Luckily for me, that was the last day of the trip, the day I said, 'NO MORE METHADONE!' I was reminded of those three days for about a week, after my skin fianally healed and I regained my normal state of mind.
