A Mildly Psychedelic Sedative
Morning Glory
Citation:   Alex English. "A Mildly Psychedelic Sedative: An Experience with Morning Glory (exp74583)". Erowid.org. Nov 5, 2020. erowid.org/exp/74583

DOSE:
100 seeds oral Morning Glory (extract)
BODY WEIGHT: 150 lb
I prepared the morning glory seeds by powdering them in a coffee grinder and dissolving them in a cup of water, then filtering by pouring. When powdered the light colored inner substance becomes distinct from the darker shell. Having read that the shell causes negative physical effects and contributes little to the psychedelic experience, I poured the solution from cup to another cup several times to eliminate the heavier shell particles. The seeds were uncoated, quantity 100. The finished preparation was a grayish watery liquid with lingering pieces of dark shell.

Before ingesting, I was troubled and unhappy. I was preoccupied with worries about my direction in life as well as existential worries about value. I was lonely and depressed. I had experienced marijuana and salvia but was on no drugs at this time. I was alone in a small, secure apartment; later, I moved to a crowded dining hall; then, as sensations became overwhelming, I returned to the same apartment.

My first sensations were fear and nausea. After ingestion I moved to the dining hall but was unable to finish my meal for the feeling of self-consciousness and the feeling that I was acting noticeably odd. These sensations were very uncomfortable psychologically. I left the dining hall and stood in a bathroom stall for a few minutes, trying to get my bearings. Now I began worrying existentially. I had a feeling that I was imprisoned and unable to escape. I felt moderate nausea but did not vomit.

I returned home and put on music. I felt a strong sedative effect. I sat down in a chair and became lost in my thoughts. I had an urge to call an old friend. When I stood and reached for the phone I noticed that my movements were sloppy and uncoordinated. I felt a pleasant physical relaxation without the pleasant mental numbness that usually comes with sedation. When I spoke to my friend I noticed that my speech was slow and slurred.

I wrote a short piece entitled “LIFE! DEATH!” I was later surprised by its coherence and personal meaning.

The effects peaked around forty-five minutes and wore off after ninety.
