This is a cumulative report of all my betel nut experiences, the time span is more than a few months.
1st Experiences - Oral
When the betel nuts I ordered arrived I was disappointed because they were sliced and roasted, I expected whole nuts.
I put a few slices (4 or 5) in my mouth with lime powder, I could not stand the taste, it was bitter and gave me a major pasty feeling in the mouth. I spit it out after 10-15 minutes, no noticeable stimulation. I tried this on other occasions, no change.
Here are the common traits of all my betel experiences:
- Bitter taste
- Numbing of the mouth
- Pasty feeling
- Gummy Red saliva, increased saliva also
- Thirsty feeling
- Odd Heart pressure/stress
2nd Betel Tea
This time I used a handful of betel with a tetley tea bag and some honey and lime powder. Boiled it in a pot (1.5-2 cups of water) and ran it through a strainer. It was very bitter and numbed my mouth very much, mild stimulating effect. I had difficulty finishing the cup of tea, the tea gave me an uncomfortable chest/heart pressure, breathing was slightly more difficult.
the tea gave me an uncomfortable chest/heart pressure, breathing was slightly more difficult.
I was not impressed with betel so far.
3rd Betel Tea
This time I had been drinking a few beers with my brother, we were not drunk but were definitely buzzed or mildly drunk, we had also had some MJ 1 or 2 times throughout the evening but the effects of it dissipated by this time. It was 23:00 I used 1/2 handful of sliced nuts, (5-6 grams If I had to guess) with some loose leaf tea. This time it was different, I didn't mind the taste and experienced some slight stimulation, this time there was a definite visual stimulation colours were vibrant and I was more sensitive to the overhead light in the room (not in a bad way). These effects only lasted 20 minutes or less.
4th Betel Experience
I did not give up on betel, but this time I got fresh whole nuts, thinking they would be much better. I did not get a noticeable effect after a while and spit out the betel nut.
Betel on its own is not worth it, the taste is awful and the effects are minimal. It leaves me with a gummy, thirsty, uncomfortable feeling in the mouth. I only found it was tolerable as a tea and when I was not sober and needed a slight kick.
