DOSE:
3 mg oral Melatonin (daily)
BODY WEIGHT: 137 lb
I have had chronic insomnia for about four years. I fall asleep fine, then wake up at some point in the night and struggle to get back to sleep. At times of stress this can result in sleeping for two or three hours, then getting up. Before Christmas, things had got ridiculous and I had experienced a month where, in a five day period, I would have four nights of 2 or 3 hours, followed by one of about 6 probably due to sheer exhaustion. I was tearful all the time, anxious and worried about everything, cranky with friends and for the first time in my life, seriously starting to worry about my mental health and considering seeking help. I've tried everything. Exercise. Diet. Drinking. Not drinking. Antihistamine. Valium. Lavender. Warm baths. Milky drinks. Zopiclone. You name it.

I went to the states at christmas and bought some melatonin. One month later, I've been sleeping better, more regularly, than I can ever remember. Still only about 6-7 hours but I wake feeling rested, with none of the groggy hangover I get from a sleeper. My dreams are very vivid and I remember them, but although they're often peculiar, they're not disturbing. I stick to the dose on the bottle, it works just fine. Turns out I'm not depressed and anxious, I was just really really tired. I know it doesn't work for everyone, but it's turned out great for me.
