Stimulating and Unpleasant
Blue Lotus (extract)
by SwamiV
Citation:   SwamiV. "Stimulating and Unpleasant: An Experience with Blue Lotus (extract) (exp84116)". Dec 5, 2017.

oral Lotus/Lily - Nymphaea nouchali var caerulea (extract)
1 mg oral Pharms - Clonazepam (pill / tablet)
1 mg oral Pharms - Alprazolam (pill / tablet)

I had obtained an extract of Blue Lotus crystals from an online source. It looked just like powdered
cocaine in that it was pure white and had little rocks in it. It also dissolved completely in tap water which gave me
confidence that whatever was in this extract was fairly purified (pure alkaloids). I had tried a small amount a long time
before with little effect so I never returned to try it again until this time.

I take several medications for depression so I don't know if these caused the negative experience that I had this time. I
reasoned that it would be ok to take this substance with the antidepressants since it was not a hallucinogen and wouldn't
mess with my serotonin levels.

I dissolved approximately 1/4 gram in about a quarter of a glass of tap water and drank it on an empty stomach. The solution was extremely bitter. Initially I detected a slight pleasant sensation so within about a half hour I drank another 1/4 gram. I soon completely lost my appetite followed by a slight nausea which I eventually tried to relieve by vomiting. Then I proceeded to experience a stimulating effect with raised heart rate and insomnia. I felt very uncomfortable for several hours and kept pacing my room and could not relax and sleep. The bottom line is that instead of a sedative/hypnotic relaxing effect I experienced high anxiety, vomiting, and insomnia.

I eventually relaxed and fell asleep only after taking 1 mg of Klonopin (clonazepam) and then 1 mg of Xanax.

My conclusion is that Blue Lotus must contain a stimulating alkaloid which was high in concentration in this extract. Like
Kratom, this plant contains many different alkaloids according to my research. I remain uninterested in taking this
extract again. Maybe the tea made from the dried flowers is a better way to go.
