Although I had read quite a bit about the subject, I'd been a bit reluctant to actually give Salvia a try. The experiences of others seemed to teeter between it being a profound spiritual/mental journey and very frightening if done incorrectly. But I talked myself into it all the same.

I decided against the wise move of having a sitter present. Sadly, none of my friends are into this kind of thing and it wasn't something I could ask of any of my family members, being they are very much anti-drug.

I chose a room in my house I was the most comfortable (oddly, the basement laundry room), sat on a chair and loaded up a safe, small starting amount. I lit it, took a deep breath, and held it a moment. What proceeded was the following:

- I immediately began to feel a strange pressure coming from my left, as though someone were physically pushing me sideways. I'd knew this was the first sign that the Salvia was working, so I quickly placed the pipe and lighter out of reach.

- Suddenly, I was somewhere else. I had no memory of having smoked anything, or that I was still in the basement, or even that I was sitting on a chair.

- I had no sense of time. It could have been 5 minutes, it could have been hours.

- In front of my eyes, forming from the reality I was only dimly aware of (I really can't think of a better way to describe this) was a train. I think there may have been people in it, I'm not sure. It was all colours, made from the ground, air, space, and objects around me. All I could do was stare dumbly for what seemed a long time.

- Suddenly the train was disintegrating, and the swirling parts that had once made up its whole began to take their original shapes. Swirling slowly back into view was my laundry room. The washing machine, the stairs, the ground, until everything was stable and still.

- I remained quiet throughout this experience (at least I believe I did) and the first thing I said upon waking up and realizing where I was/what had transpired was 'Oh, Shit...'.

In closing, the experience was unlike anything I expected. While not negative in any way, I could certainly see that in a less calm, comfortable, and quiet surrounding it could be very intense and very terrifying.
