Connection With REM Sleep?

DOSE:
10 - 20 mg   2C-E
BODY WEIGHT: 130 lb
Sometime ago and based on very loose and inconclusive information my friends and I came up with a hypothesis about 2C-E and sleep. Its not that the theorized effect is specific to 2C-E we've just only happened to notice it with 2C-E. The hypothesis states that taking a small dose of 2C-E before bed increases the quality of sleep. So sleeping 4 hours with 2C-E one may feel as refreshed as having slept 6 or 8. We have not confirmed this nor have we worked out dosages or times.

A few days ago I got home around 0230 in the morning and since I had to get up at 0630 the following day for work I figured it would be the perfect time to test out this hypothesis. However, being that I was tired I made a mistake. Instead of snorting 1 - 5 mg I took 10-20mg of 2C-E. This was at 0250. Effects began to be noticeable at 0255, by 0300-0310 I realized that the dose was way too high and I was tripping quite noticeably. Despite this I still had work in the morning so turn off all lights, the computer screens, and went to bed by 0330. After a few minutes of trying to lay down and close my eyes I realized that sleep was not gonna happen. Soon I gave up on trying to fall asleep and just laid there with my eyes closed.

In the absence of music or light or other people the trip turned out more intense than I would have expected from that dose (I've taken 2C-E many times before). Complete with creating intricate alternate realities being many different people sometimes at once. The hallucinations were very dream like – story oriented rather than series of colored patterns (though I had those here and there too). One hallucination seemed to come right after the preceding one had ended. They stopped and the intensity of the trip dropped each time I opened my eyes, which I did a few times. I recall that I rolled around and tossed and turned a lot, no position I seemed to be comfortable after a few minutes. Around 0500 I got up to go to the bathroom, partially just to take a break from the intense hallucinations. I came around then to the realization that I didn't actually know whether I had fallen asleep or not because I was tripping too much to have noticed waking up, and the hallucinations were very much like very very vivid dreams.

At 0630 my alarm went off. By then the trip had subsided and was no longer as intense but I still could not seem to fall asleep. It took me a few seconds to realize what I was meant to do about this music that suddenly began playing, then I got up and prepared for work. Almost immediately I noticed that I was fully alert. Still tripping but not the groggy half asleep state I usually find myself in as I'm making breakfast. I got to work still feeling the effects, but with them being barely there and my job not involving dealing with people I was okay. The effects were virtually completely gone by 1000.

The interesting aspect is usually when I get to work on 5-7 hours of sleep, I am very much fighting sleep and don't really function until 3-4 cups of strong tea (I don't drink coffee) but this day I was fully awake without needing any tea. The total alertness lasted all day until about 2230 when I started feeling drowsy. However despite the lack of drowsiness and being fully alert I could feel all day that my body was tired, and getting progressively more and more tired. I went to the mall and by 2100 I was mostly trying to sit rather than walk around. I went home and to bed at about 2330 I woke up the next morning at 0730-0800 without an alarm but decided to go back to sleep and did so until about 1000.

After some discussion my friends and I suspect that hallucinogens can cause the brain to enter a state similar to REM. All the information we have now is inconclusive.
