The following events take place over a 4 day binge.

Just got out of a 17 day jail stay, my first experience lasting longer than a few hours. It was also my first felony (riding passenger in a borrowed car that turned out to be stolen - bullshit) but that's another story.

A little background on me: I've been an opiate addict since a major surgery at age 13. My first experience with IV Morphine changed my life. After leaving the well-supplied hospital I switched to vicodin while gradually advancing to oxycontin. When oxy became too expensive, heroin became an obvious alternative. At the time of my arrest I had been on a 3 year run using heroin daily. After my release I was pleased to find that my body no longer needed it. The cravings were there still, but the horrifying panicked sickness was thankfully absent.

Unable to pay back rent, my only option for a place to stay at this point was my friend Judy's who happened to be a serious meth dealer. From the moment I arrived at her house she kept offering me free hits which I accepted with some caution. I've found that meth tends to hasten heroin withdrawal, but this time I was clean, so I took more and more.

I've always been very sensitive to stimulants, only requiring maybe 0.15g at a time of average quality meth to keep me up for over 24 hours. Until day 3 I stayed at her house helping her with tweaker activities and gradually feeling the effects of sleep deprivation. At this point I decided I was too on edge - so it was time to search for my old friend, heroin. Walking down to my old hangout spot in front of 7-11 I saw an old junkie friend standing beside a stranger. This friend who I'll call Rod was visibly dopesick and immediately hit me up for money. I told him I had 15$, enough for a bag, and was introduced to his friend Eric who was holding.

I'm always skeptical of people I don't know, but Rod ensured me that he had tried his dope and it was legit. After buying a balloon we squeezed into the bathroom stall at the nearby grocery store and proceeded to get out our equipment. I dropped the dope into a spoon and it made a loud clanking sound. Great. He sold me a fucking pebble. I was livid. After berating Rod I found out that he hadn't ever tried Eric's dope he was just desperate and needed an immediate fix. Luckily I was able to get some more money and go through my usual connect. Total bliss. My first shot of H in almost 20 days immediately cancelled out the tweaky edginess caused by the speed. Finally I was able to relax and went back to Judy's continuing to use both substances.

On day 4 things started to get extremely weird. Walking down the street I noticed Eric on the sidewalk opposite mine and charged across traffic to apparently beat my money back out of him. As soon as I got near him he disapeared into thin air. For some reason this really didn't worry me or seem strange in any way. I had never had any experience with continued meth use in the past since it always seemed to cancel out my drug of choice.

My behavior became increasingly bizarre. I started talking to myself, going on long senseless rants. Later that night I hooked up with my girlfriend Cass and we stopped at a McDonalds so she could use the bathroom. Now Cass has always had a problem with bathrooms. For some reason it takes her at least an hour to take care of business, whatever the hell she does. Tonight was no different. I was growing impatient and knocked on the door repeatedly only to gain assurance that she would be out in a minute - at least 5 times. I noticed a couple seated at a nearby table who spoke in a southern accent and asked me if I wanted them to go in and get her. This seemed strange but I shrugged it off anyways. I decided to walk out across the street to have a cigarette when I noticed Cass leaving with the southern couple and getting into a brown station wagon. Reasonably pissed off I stormed back down to my hangout spot talking to myself the whole way. Later that night I ran into a surprised Cass when she told me the news that shattered my whole existence: there was no brown station wagon. There was no southern couple. I had left her there in the bathroom and walked off. She led me to a nearby friend's house and asked him to watch me so I could get some sleep which I eventually did, after trashing his house and screaming while his parents slept in the next room.

In conclusion, be wary of long binges with meth. As if the effects of the drug weren't bad enough, the sleep deprivation can sneak up on you and put you in dangerous situations. I think I'll stick with my old friend the opiate instead.
