Toxic Root Killed My Gums Lining
Silene capensis
Citation:   stupid. "Toxic Root Killed My Gums Lining: An Experience with Silene capensis (exp93618)". Erowid.org. Mar 12, 2016. erowid.org/exp/93618

DOSE:
0.5 g buccal Silene capensis (roots)
BODY WEIGHT: 75 kg
I chewed some Silene capensis root in hope of having interesting dreams and/or remember them better. I chewed approx. 0.5g of dried root during 50 minutes and kept it between my cheek and my gums. The sensation was a bit weird and uncomfortable. It was burning a little bit, a lot less than, say, Calamus, but with something nasty in the sensation.

I spat the material and felt like my gums had been scorched by broken glass, more than burnt by something like pepper or ginger. Two days after, the area is still painful and my gums lining has turned white. Cells are dead and have turned to a rotting texture.

There was no effect on my dreams.

This root was 6 years old, I don't know if it plays a part in this unexpected toxicity. I'll never try Silene again under any form.
