Last night I went to a concert in a fairly small, sold-out, hot venue. The last time I had gone to a show there I had gotten stoned in between bands, then when I came back inside I felt hot, uncomfortable and light-headed, resulting in my sitting down for most of, if not the entire show. So this time out I rolled a small joint, deciding that I'd share it with people and not get so blasted that I would have a bad time. Not to be.

I rolled a small-ish joint, and shared it between 3-4 other people, but I definitely took the lion's share, and I have a bad habit of holding it in too long, which often results in my getting too stoned. I was feeling fine outside the venue, shared a cigarette, went inside, got a beer and started to watch the band.

About 10 minutes later I started to feel very hot, so I rolled up my sleeves and pant legs. This didn't quite fix my problem, so I drank some more beer and sat down. About 5 minutes after I sat down I started to notice that my vision was getting worse, which came along with a serious head-rush, something that I had am somewhat familiar with as this had happened to me a couple times before when I had gotten very sick and dehydrated. But I was healthy last night. Anyway, I felt the familiar feeling of 'Oh shit, I'm gonna pass out,' but I felt strangely calm about it, knowing that I was sitting down and that no one was going to bother me.

Ultimately I didn't pass out, but my vision did completely close off, which is what happened in the past when I passed out. However, in those past experiences, when someone 'woke me up' or snapped me out of it, my vision came back immediately, albeit usually a little fuzzy for a couple minutes. This time I was completely blind for about 10 minutes. I was somewhat alarmed, but I figured it would probably pass, that no good would be done by freaking out about it in the middle of a show, and that the music sounded pretty kickass. But I did have my eyes completely open and I couldn't see a thing. Eventually I could make out shapes and colors (it was dark, which I'm sure didn't help) and after that it took about 1 more minute until my eyes were back to normal.

But I think I've learned my lesson about going to shows and getting stoned - if it's really hot inside, don't do it. Or I'll just follow the adage of 'puff, puff, pass.'

Also, I was pretty burnt today. Too stoned.
