repeated oral Modafinil (pill / tablet)

A few years ago, I went through a phase of experimenting with Modafinil, and thought I'd post a few of my thoughts and findings. My experiments consisted of daily usage over month long periods, broken up with a few weeks inbetween when I was unable to obtain any.

A little about me: 30-ish male, a little experience in most of the popular drugs, not much of an addictive personality and was smoking weed daily through most of my Modafinil adventures.

I'll start off by saying my experiences were nothing other than positive. I used to take 50mg in the mornings and 50mg in the early evenings and noticed a marked improvement in concentration and work ethic. To put things in perspective, I play online poker and keep accurate records of how many hands/day I'd play. Pre-Modafinil I'd average around 2000 hands, whereas with Modafinil I'd average 5000+ each day. I felt focused, alert and often immersed in whatever task I was doing at the time.

Some other random things that may be worth noting - I never really felt 'high' or even different at any point. For the most part, the only way I'd know I'd taken Modafinil would be finding it easy to become immersed in whatever task I was doing. Also, I ordered online and this made my supply a little less than predictable.. so after a month or two of daily use, I'd be forced to go a few weeks without. I never noticed any withdrawal symptoms other than the feeling of needing to force myself to do the tasks that I was flying through with Modafinil.

I also noticed my urine smelled of asparagus when using, but have read this is a common side effect.

As for insomnia, I did experience that initially, but it wasn't like amphetamine induced insomnia. It was more a case of going to bed at 1am, getting momentarily distracted by something online, and after 4 hours of Wikipedia, finding it was 5am. I never at any point lay in bed thinking 'Damn, I need to sleep'.

I've not used Modafinil for a few years, but if I knew I had an important task were I knew concentration would be important, I wouldn't hesitate to use it again. I've read a few negative experiences here regarding Modafinil, and as we know, chemicals affect different people differently. All in all my experiences were positive, but I'd recommend anyone new to Modafinil start taking <25mg for a while, work up to 50mg and take it from there. Most of the negative effects I've read about have been through lack of sleep. I know I could take Modafinil and feel fine on the surface after staying awake for 3 or 4 days.. but who knows what sleep deprivation type psychosis is bubbling under the surface. I used cautiously, made sure I got enough sleep, and have nothing but praise for Modafinil. As always, be careful though.
