Because opiate use can lead to significant tolerance (requiring higher doses for the same effects), the dose used by a first time user is significantly smaller than that used by a regular user. It can be extremely dangerous to choose ones dose on the basis of the amount taken by someone else. Overdoses of opiates can be fatal.]
After two kidney transpalnts and 20+ years of living in pain from the side effects of the anti-rejection meds, my MD prescribed Dilaudid HP injections to me: (3)10mg/ml vials, 4 times a day. I've been on this dose of DHP for about 2.5 years.
Its a pain injecting myself, however I still have the fistula in my arm from the 2 years of dialysis prior to my 2nd transplant. I inject the DHP into the dialysis fistula in my arm, without MD knowing of course.
For the past 2.5 years my pain has been greatly controlled by the DHP. Upon injection my whole body get fuzzy and warm, and yes even 2.5 years later. Then for the next few hours I am 90% pain free and I feel great. Everything seems wonderful and life is excellent while the DHP is flowing through my body.
Of course its very addicting, both physically and mentally, however its worth it, especially for chronic pain. I've been on everything fron percocet to Oxy 80's to Methadone, Dilaudid is superior. I am probably one of only a handful of people that have a script for injectable Dilaudid HP.
