I did not know what the effects wormwood has on people as there isn’t much information about it online. But we decided that we would take some wormwood and if the experience ended up being ‘boring’ we would ‘nomad flip’ it with some Salvia Divinorum.
We decided that we would meet at a quiet neighborhood park at midnight so we could experience a unique setting during our trip. It was very warm, moderately humid and foggy outside. I wasn’t sure what I was going to experience trying this drug but I was in a good mood, I had just taken some acetaminophen an hour or so prior to minimize some menstrual cramps I was experiencing.
Once we had finally met up at the park we decided that we were going to vaporize the extract. I had the first go, it was a completely clean vaporizer and we filled it with about 5 pinches of the extract. The first hit didn’t seem to have any prominent effects, so I took another hit and started to experience a light feeling of well-being, as I took a third hit I started to feel myself rising to a very quick high and a feeling of euphoria, it came up so fast I couldn’t react in a manner other than laughing profusively for what seemed like an entire minute. However, my friend wanting to get me really high coerced me to do one more hit, and that hit just did it for me, I couldn’t do any more. I started to feel my limbs turning to what I described was “jelly” I realized afterwards I told him that like 10 times, I went to stand up and at first I felt very wobbly, but I could walk completely fine. In a matter of 5 minutes I started to hit the peak of my trip.
My mouth started producing this tick gooey saliva that was hard to swallow so I had to keep spitting, but I felt extremely talkative and introspective. My cramps came back immediately once my high hit the peak, which I described as a ‘stomach ache’, but it wasn’t at all overwhelming. I could feel this rich feeling or energy coming from my stomach.
I don’t remember exactly the chain of events at this point, but once the wormwood started to plateau it lightened a fair bit from what it had been, while still continuing to be a strong experience. I asked my friend if it was truly wormwood we were taking because the effects were so pronounced and I was tripping so hard. I was nearly sure I was on salvia, or a light form of ecstacy. I looked at my friend and I felt extremely blissful describing myself as “beautiful” and “made of silk” my whole body becoming overtaken by this feeling of thick cream, as though my skin was covered in this rich, smooth layer of icing. And my friend, I felt this heavy, positive empathetic feeling towards him suddenly and I couldn’t stop smiling. I attempted to articulate how I was feeling and descriptions of the world just came to me through pictures. I was just feeling so good, so rich.
He told me to listen to some music and the music just flowed through my entire body in the most beautiful of ways, every beat becoming more than just a part of the song. My movements became extraordinarily fluid. And I just couldn’t stop talking. My voice felt as though it was echoing out through my throat in slow motion, I could only talk in fragmented sentences for a period of about a minute due to it. I was wearing some sassafras oil he poured on my wrist before we took the wormwood and the strong (and in my opinion rather pungent) odor started to become rather subdued and smelled extraordinarily sweet and beautiful. I could smell things in multiple dimensions, the smell just became a part of my body once it entered into my nose.
After what I believe to have been about an hour of the euphoric bliss that was the wormwood, we decided to ‘nomad flip’ it with the 10x salvia divinorum. We had cleaned out the vaporizer as best as we could with a knife, and poured in about a ½ teaspoon of salvia. I attempted to smoke this, and I had smoked salvia fine before, but for some reason it was the most pungent feeling I had ever experienced, and I immediately coughed and couldn’t stop. Figuring it was a fluke, I tried it three more times, each time coughing nearly immediately. Now I don’t do drugs very often, much less smoke them, but my body couldn’t handle the smoke at all. My friend who does smoke a lot also seemed to have a hard time with it after the wormwood.
I could feel a slight buzz after taking the salvia, but it wasn’t anything I would have considered substantial. But at this point the trip started to get very, very weird, so I’m positive it definitely did have some sort of effect. I believe wormwood has some extending effect on salvia, as this didn’t only happen to me once, but twice with salvia.
(Outside story: I had taken absinthe and salvia about a year prior and I had experienced a regular salvia trip, but for some reason I believe the wormwood in absinthe extends the trip because the trip kept fading in and out for a couple hours)
And on this occasion, after directly smoking wormwood and (attempting to) smoke salvia I was experiencing something similar, I was getting mild hallucinogenic effects that seemed to extend on for about an hour. The hallucinogenic effects started becoming truly prominent after about 20 minutes (which is what I mean about extension of effects), I was attempting to listen to my friend talk after smoking the salvia but I couldn’t concentrate on what he was saying. His voice started fading in and out. I closed my eyes and started to see these dark purple and green oil spill patterns, and then these bright white circular patterns emerging eventually exploding into such an array of colours that I had to open my eyes. I am totally going to forget a lot of the visuals I was seeing because it started becoming so strange so fast, but all of the visuals tended to be very mild. I started to see the world around me change, lights became brighter, and I started to see mild and very brief hallucinations. Everything I saw apart from the closed-eye visuals were only 3-5 seconds long. I saw shadows turning into people, I saw flecks appearing in the sky, things appearing and disappearing. I thought them to be little fairies. I saw the starry night sky turn into ropes that were falling apart, but my most prominent hallucination was that of a white and orange spotted cat which jumped into reality and out of it again. It looked so real.
I cannot explain all of the things I saw, I just remember trying to walk home with my friend and things were getting very creepy because it was dark and foggy, I started to see faces appearing in everything, people appearing in alleyways, shadows becoming people. It was the scariest walk of my life. I fell asleep very easily though, and as I write this, it is 1:46 the next day and I feel this empathetic, lovely relaxed afterglow, and though I showered all I smell is the smell of the wormwood (the smell of absinthe) continuously returning from my skin. My emotions feel almost synthetic, but I feel very spiritual and at one with the world.
