DOSE:
30-70 mg oral Pharms - Baclofen
BODY WEIGHT: 110 lb
Setting: Home, lights low, music or TV on low
Hypothesis: Baclofen can reduce anxiety and cravings for drugs or alcohol when abstaining (see Olivier Amiesen's book 'The End of My Addiction')
Time frame: Two weeks
Objective: Use baclofen to restrict alcohol intake

I wanted to quit drinking t minus 14 days after 6 weeks of a bottle a day or more wine binge including blackouts, falls and generally unacceptable behavior. I began by reducing drinking from 1+ bottle of wine per day to 2-3 glasses, to 1 glass, over days -14 to -9.
I began by reducing drinking from 1+ bottle of wine per day to 2-3 glasses, to 1 glass, over days -14 to -9.

At -9 I started taking 50-70 mg baclofen in the evening, when cravings were worst -- to no noticeable effect at first. Over the intervening 9 days to today, I stopped craving alcohol, felt no withdrawal, and stopped drinking - unless I wanted to. I stopped feeling anxious and depressed. I stopped crying about losing my BF and job.

At 70 mg I felt nauseated; 30-50 is the appropriate divided daily intake for maintaining the lack of the anxiety I had heretofore felt all my life. The result overall was not trippy but it was introspective; I feel at peace in a way that neither alcohol nor celexa nor lexapro could deliver.

I have had dreams again and wake rested where daily 1/2 -1 bottle of wine had left me without dreams and with fitful sleep. I have been out with drinkers 3 times in the 7 recent days and did not drink anything on two occasions and had simply one beer on the third, while my companion had 4 pints.

I do not want alcohol anymore. I do not want weed. I do not need the antidepressants. I can drink but it is not unpleasant, just not terribly compelling.

Excellent progress after 14 years of daily drinking - both Ameisen's method and Allen Carr book on controlling alcohol also helped.
